I didn't want a track bike. I wanted a road bike that happened to be fixed geared. I had a CAAD8 laying around. I got an awesome deal on an indestructible wheelset (White ENO hubs to Salsa Delgado rims). I love it.

He's missing one of those top bar pad things, cards in the spokes, front areo wheel and also needs to ditch the brakes (who needs those anyhow poseur !), 9" wide straight handle bars with neon BMX grips and the Pabst.

Me: They're the race numbers for messenger races called 'alleycats'. They put them in their spokes instead of taping them to the handlebars. Messengers keep them as keepsakes, and keeping them in their wheels lets people who rode in the same race identify each other later, so they can catch up and trade stories.

Like it. Single speeds are mondo fun. Is that an ENO hub, EBB, or magic (couple chainrings and cogs)?

ENO hub. Mine must be an older one since it takes threaded cogs. It's a snap to set up and they're really bombproof. All the things that make a CAAD8 a great road/race bike make it a great fixed gear too.

Nice. I too love my fixed gear road (NOT track) bike. I tried the magic gear angle and while it started off as a fun little project, it eventually became a big pain in the butt. I thought of getting an ENO hub but when I found an '89 Trek 660 frame with horizontal dropouts, I snatched it up.

I think it's pretty cool....as long as the owner likes it and rides it, all the power to him!

Explain to me what is dishonest in my analogy.
By their very nature, analogies aren't precise;that's why they're analogies. Analogies draw comparsions between things that are similar in certain respects, but disimilar in others. You can debate the applicability of the analogy, or its force of persuasion, but it's not a question of honesty.
And as for the applicability of the analogy, putting old race numbers in your spokes (see all the races I've done) is pretty similar to the old (affected) habit of leaving lift tickets on your ski jacket (see all the places I've skied.)
You really need to grow up if a simple internet post gets you so worked up you start questioning people's honesty.

I love it! Ride the hell out of it. I've got an old 3.0 that has been converted to fixed gear with an ENO hub. I love it too. If it ever bites the dust I might convert my CAAD4 to fixed. A fixed gear road bike is much nicer to ride on the street than a true track bike.

However, a new CAAD9 frame has commercial value, thus, it makes more sense economically to sell the CAAD9 frame and acquire a frame better suited for fixed gear.
To put it in economic terms, making a new CAAD9 into a fixed gear is not its "highest and best use"
An old 3.0, may have its higest and best use as a fixed gear conversion.

heh. I feel like building a ENO hub and converting my BMC Pro Machine into a fixed gear just to troll the hate for the Caad 9 conversion.

The distinction that several of us in this thread are trying to make relates to the economic value of the frame. Your 3.0 frame has virtually no commercial value. To the extent you had the frame, or picked it up very cheap, and you want a fixed gear, it makes sense to build it into a fixed gear, using the Eno hub to deal with the chain tension issue.
However, a new CAAD9 frame has commercial value, thus, it makes more sense economically to sell the CAAD9 frame and acquire a frame better suited for fixed gear.
To put it in economic terms, making a new CAAD9 into a fixed gear is not its "highest and best use"

Anyhow, all the noses out of joint here have nothing to do with the commercial value of the frame but rather that someone with a half way decent road frame chooses not to conform to the cookie cutter shape that the rest of the roadie lemmings here do. Case in point, post #4 in this thread "That thing is f'n ugly" from a guy that himself owns a CAAD9.
