Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I feel if I can't touch toes on both feet while on the saddle, I'll wipe out again or something. It's a security issue, I guess.
A false sense of security you should get eliminate especially if it might lead to knee problems. I bailed pretty hard a few years ago and had a concussion as a result which considering I was going about 20mph and crashed into a tree I'm pretty lucky I didn't suffer any more injuries. That hasn't stopped me from riding at that speed and faster, I just learned to be more aware of potholes.

I think sometime this week I will go to the store I bought my hybrid from and ask the guy to mark the place on the seat post and ask him to adjust it a few mm each week/whatever works.

Fortunately I was wearing a helmet which was a good thing being the impact split the helmet in two.

And now that we have mandatory helmet laws for kids, there are a lot more of those parents and so fewer kids riding bikes. After all, cycling must be really dangerous if you need a helmet when doing it, right?

Get an allen wrench - have the shop tell you what size you need - and you can adjust it yourself.

I actually have tools, they're in storage along with most of what I own, annoying. I can probably borrow/steal one from my BFs toolbox though.

"Bike fitters" and I use that term loosely, always want to put me with a high seat. High enough that there is pain in 10 minutes of riding.

Do what feels right.

Good advice, except the reason the low saddle height for her "feels right" is psychological. OP's concern about saddle height had nothing to do with pain, but rather with her feeling safer being able to reach the ground while perched on the saddle. She has also mentioned in another post problems with her... "junk", which Machka suggest could also be cause by a low saddle height. I can't relate there, but it seems raising that saddle might be a good idea, considering OP already has preexisting knee issues.

Yeah, you don't want to go too high either ... that can cause as many problems as having a saddle that's too low, such as achilles tendon issues, and other knee issues to name a couple. You've got to figure out the right height.

You're a wuss. Get over it. Put the saddle back where it needs to be and stop being such a crybaby.

/end tough love mode

Geez.....I learned this from my dad when I was 4 years old and he took the training wheels off. Learned it over and over living on my bikes all summer when I was on a kid, having a paper route where I really rode my bike and threw the papers.

Did you grow up in a bubble or something
I apparently always rode bikes that were too low when I was a child. It didn't matter much, since I never went more than a mile at a time. I only just discovered this attempting to take it up seriously as an adult. Big fat sack of whatever for you.
