Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Trek 1.2 for the win!

I am 5'7 and at mt LBS after the first proper fitting the measurement pointed at a 52 with a 84 seat height..now same shop different location looked at me and said 54..without a proper fitting.
I have 30 inseam, long torso, short arms, and really wide shoulders and I want to be able to keep up with my brother on his 2007 Trek 1500 and my brothers friend on his 5.2 2006 Madone.

So what is your question??? Are you asking what size bike is going to fit you better, or are you asking if the trek 1.2 is going to make you ride faster than your brother. Nobody here can answer either of those questions....

5'7" with a 30 inch inseam would probably be a 52cm or even a 50 depending on how long your reach is and of course depending on the frame geometry. I always felt that having the top tube match your body was the first important goal, the the seat tube. DIY fit kit from competitive cyclist website worked for me.

as far as keeping up with the pack---now thats another question only you can answer

did you ride either size yet? I've given up on asking shops for size recommendations. Everyone has their own personal preferred fit, and they will recommend how they want a bike to feel. It's up to you to find out what fits best.

I haven't been a road bike longer than about 5 min, but have already commited to it by buying all the right gear to make my first experience the best.

Yes, I tested the bike Trek 1.2 at my lbs for 5 min. the 52' size and the shifting on the triple was pretty good.

Well I thought this was going to be a love-fest thread for the Trek 1.2...... I'll donate an opinion anyway. It's a frickin piece of engineering genius. At least it feels like it to my inexperienced cycling self. Got a wee skipping problem but I expect that to disappear after its 300 mile service and tightening up (or whatever they do at my LBS)... Couldn't be happier, I'm in love

Ugh Trek 1500/1.2 FTL, such a boring flexy frame, I've reserved my 1500 to a disposable crit bike these days. There's plenty of better bikes/builds out there for the same or less.

You might wanna check out the new 2010 caad9, you will be able to fetch one for arounf the same price as the trek, and the frame is superior to the trel also...

If I were you I would do your own fit kit. You will need help to do the measurements.

I have had bad luck with LBS just trying to sell you what they have in stock. I happen to like buying stuff used because there are alot of people who think they are going to be the next Lance until they realize it's alot harder than it looks. You can save up to half off in most cases.Try craigslist and even ebay you can get lucky.

for what it's worth I picked up a used Tirreno razza 2000(made by pedal force). Full Ultegra except the cranks. I paid $901.00 shipped to my door off of Ebay last year.

Noted

With all the great bikes out there I am surprised by the high demand in the 2.3 alpha red triple aluminum alloy with all 105 and an Ultegra rear cassette.
btw the 2010 treks are readily available call your LBS!!

1.2 was a prize

I'm recieving the bike as a gift by my awesome brother, 1.2 is entry level- I'd wait a a year or two before going all in on the caad9..depending on my progress with the Trek 1 Series. Caa9 looks like an F1 racer.

Blind Luck

That was an amazing find kudos to you on the Ebay purchase. Wow just isn't the right word for it.

As far as the custom fit kit I was really looking for something just like that on the net no luck, I only came across the Specialized fit system, and thanks for that link too good lookin' out!

ONE post.

If you're going to wait a year to get a CAAD9 you're wasting money it's not an exotic bike just buy it and be done with it. I wish I had bought the CAAD9 for the extra $200 or so, I probably wouldn't have bought my System Six this year, would have just upgraded it to Dura Ace.

Similar dimensions, was fitted for a 54 (had a 52 cannondale). Fits great. Treks seem to run a little smaller.

I don't get it....are we supposed to be giving our experience and insight to the OP in this thread? Because it sounds like he's just blogging about his 1.2 and oblivious to any input....which is fine. I just wanted to be sure...?
