Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Does that spot start to underscore the real value of another unlikely Lance TdF victory? Ask the chemo patients with the little yellow Livestrong bands. Those people (and their families), they believe in Lance.

You gotta give em hope.
My cousin, after going through a double mastectomy is now going through her third round of chemo. Her tumor markers went up again. She had just grown all her hair back. Now it's all gone again.

She wears her Livestrong hat to cover her head. She's really excited to be able to see Lance race again next month.

Both her sisters are dead from cancer. Her father as well.

When people snicker about Lance, I tell them this story.

To my cousin, Lance is a hero.

That's what matters.

I fully support the LiveSTRONG foundation and hope everyone else sees the good that has come from it.

Before Dr. Einhorn came up with what is now the standard for treating testicular cancer, you were a longshot as well.

Never give up. I've sent that book to several people that I know that have had various forms of cancer.

You rock. Cancer survivorship is one club I never want to join.

Back when they did the "Tour of Hope" they stopped and I went to see Lance and Dr. Einhorn speak. It was about raising awareness for clinical trials for cancer cures.

One entire end of an NBA arena was full of testicular cancer survivors Dr. Einhorn had cured.

That was amazing.

But he didn't. He has spent much of the last decade raising money and giving hope to millions. I'm trying to figure out how that makes him an arrogant self centered ahole, but it's not happening. Self confidence and assurance is arrogance? Making money for him and his family from personal appearances and endorsements (after he stopped taking money for being a pro cyclist) is 'greed'? Whatever.
It is to people that will never do anything other than exist and complain and wonder why they are not successful.

You get it.

Most don't.

That's maybe a link that should be posted to people who say Lance had too big of a form turnaround.

Ah, c'mon. All he does is stand on the back of the sled. The dogs do all the work.

Haterade sales just tripled worldwide. The anti-Lance-weenie fallout on the interwebs will be enormous. Get all your online shopping done quickly.

You got that right RW.

See? Despite our divergent political views, we agree on at least two things.

• Lance rocks

• The Mets suck

not to start this post off on a corny note but people fail to realize how "not about the bike" this entire thing is. lance is hope to millions with and without cancer, people undergoing chemo and people that may have never known what cancer or chemo was before he came along. winning the tour de france 7 times in a row is, in the most simplest terms, a mere example of what one can achieve in the face of seemingly impossible odds.

on a personal note, i know that everytime i feel like something can't be done i look down at that yellow band that has rarely left my wrist in 5(?) years and think that we truly are without limits. lance is a glowing beacon of hope to EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE, no matter what it is in life that one needs a little help with, whether it be cancer or not. vive le lance! and LIVESTRONG

That may just be one of the best Nike commercials they've ever done. Classy, respectful, to the point.

I am waiting for the equal time commercial from Reebok where Lance kills puppies, and steals candy from babies.
