&^#$*@! Joggers!
Knocked out a quick ten miles this PM before the weather turned too foul and I called it a day. While riding down some residential streets, I came upon a gaggle (chose that word on purpose) of joggers plodding along three and four abreast taking up the whole lane. I saw a few bikers pass them on a straight portion but I had to fall behind and into a very low gear to get around a curve so I could see oncoming traffic. They never even made an effort to stop playing in the street. In my mirror I even saw them fail to yield to auto traffic. Where are blind little old lady drivers when you need one?

You can't be serious in that you couldn't pass a gaggle of JOGGERS (not even RUNNERS!) on your bike in a millisecond. Joggers go like 12-15 minutes/mile, where as an EASY bike ride is 6min/mile (10mph) or at least twice as fast. Jeez.

When you have a 30 yard gaggle on a blind curve where oncoming traffic can't see you until you're dead, then yes, I prefer to see my kid grow up.

Uhh...did you try waiting until the curve is over? How long was that blind curve - all of a quarter mile (likely less?)
|
So, you had to slow down for the runners? Do you slow down for bicycles? Do you complain every time? Share the road you cager.
|
you think about dropping a "PASSING ON THE LEFT"?
|
Bicycles are specifically mentioned in state drivers' manuals as vehicles that are allowed to use the road. Soft, fleshy bodies are not.
|
you must be one of those people who goes 15mph over the speed limit and consistently stay in the passing lane.

The first paragraph of my states code (CO) regarding pedestrians:
(1) Pedestrians walking or traveling in a wheelchair along and upon highways where sidewalks are not provided shall walk or travel only on a road shoulder as far as practicable from the edge of the roadway. Where neither a sidewalk nor road shoulder is available, any pedestrian walking or traveling in a wheelchair along and upon a highway shall walk as near as practicable to an outside edge of the roadway and, in the case of a two-way roadway, shall walk or travel only on the left side of the roadway facing traffic that may approach from the opposite direction; except that any person lawfully soliciting a ride may stand on either side of such two-way roadway where there is a view of traffic approaching from both directions. I would interpret that as meaning if there is a sidewalk, they must use it, and if not they must be in single file. |
Were they hot?
|
So you had to slow down and wait for traffic to clear...big deal. Why does the fact that they were just humans make it worse than if they were humans in some kind of vehicle? Cuz they were invading your space and not in their place? Hmmm, drivers feel the same way about bikes.
Srsly, chill dude, life's too short. ;) You're gonna take some lumps in this thread...the jogger's revenge! :D |

Just wondering, how long were you behind them until you had a chance to pass?

You're out for a 10 mile ride, and you're worried about going slow...

Yes, once the 1/8 mile curve was over and the oncoming traffic was not a factor, I left them behind quickly. What I can't get over is that these people, members of a local gym/spa, demonstrate the very thing that so many drivers harangue cyclists for. They are no longer in their cars, but for some reason, think that running down the middle of the road, stretched across the entire lane (rather than as far right as possible like bikes are supposed to ride) is perfectly acceptable. I wonder how many of them harassed a cyclist as they drove home that evening.

if something so juvenile bothers you that much we might as well arrest you now

What the **** is wrong with EVERYTHING in Florida.
|
You only rode ten miles, and you're upset about being delayed a couple of seconds for joggers?
