Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I actually like the kickstand. Well - you said it's to long, and that makes it useless. But I just put a kickstand on my bike that is just the right length and it's been soooo nice to just put down the kickstand rather than trying to find something to lean it against. :-)

I like the disc on the wall designed for protecting your bike's grip tape. They also double really well as doorknob stoppers.

Okay! So today I had some time to do the aforementioned, except for removing the clear plastic disc in the rear... what do you think?

Will be out biking in the meantime >

What did you do to the bike other than taking off the kickstand?

Nothing. Just took another pic of it after hearing everybody about the "proper" way to take a pic of a bike (with the pedals at the 3-9 position, hide the air valves, etc etc)

This is going to sound really stupid. While doing my research on road bikes I actually went a short while thinking these tires were full rubber and did not use air because of the fact that every picture I looked at had no air valves....

To be honest I didn't do much research when getting my road bike. I guess I just got lucky in picking the right one. I spent literally less than 15 minutes in the shop asking about the bikes before they recommended one to me, haha.

As for what CiaoFun said, that disc actually is the doorknob-stopper. I never thought about using that to protect the handbar wrap... haha

If you get a few $$ for cycling, I'd invest in some puncture resistant tires such as the Specialized Armadillo or Continental Ultra Gatorskin. It isn't necessary, but helps with the flats. Enjoy the bike, it looks nice!

Well I already bought some tire liners that are now already in my tires. They seem to be doing their job well. I think I should just wait a little bit further down the line before I get the Armadillos right? (To be honest I think actually my Specialized Sirrus Sport came with Armadillos because they look *exactly* like them...)

I mean like, with every ride that I take (I'm doing about 15mi) there is usually 1 or 2 instances where I run over a thorn and it sticks so I have to stop and pull it out. That's normal right? With the Armadillos would it be different?

Granted I know I can buy them (when I have $200 to spare), but I am too scared to try to switch them out myself (which is why I probably will ask the bike shop to do it for me, haha).

Don't really know if the 105's are worth the investment for me though, maybe in the long run when I start going past 15mi, haha.
but don't the 105's use the brake levers as shifters as well?.. because I think mine are like yours, where the brake levers are shifters along with thumb shifters as well..

The brake levers for 105s are also shifters. But there is no thumb button, just a smaller shift paddle like on Ultegra and DA.

If you want a group that doesn't use the brake lever as a shifter, get SRAM or Campy. But Campy will still use the thumb shifter and SRAM just uses a single shift paddle.

Nice bike. Seriously don't worry about average speed. Head wind, climbs, etc. will always bring it down. Focus more on your average power output on a given ride.

that's what I thought.. so I was confused when the OP mentioned he wanted 105's because he didn't like shifting with the brake levers..

acaurora: Now that you have gotten rid of the kick stand, you need a bike stand so the beauty is not leaning on a wall. We have 3 for the indoor bikes. (That doesn't count the ones in the garage.) The stands are plastic and not too much $. And welcome to riding.

Kickstands attract thornballs. As do wheel reflectors. It's a documented fact.

By now you've paid extra money for something called a "bike stand".

But I want to introduce you to this new, amazing device. It doesn't have a name yet, but it's just like a "bike stand", except that it attaches to the frame of the bike so you always have it with you. So unlike a bike stand, you can use it to keep your bike upright when you're not holding onto it, even when you're not at home! It also works on concrete other than the concrete in your garage!

See, this newfangled "stand" attaches at the bottom of your bike, then when you're not using it you just "kick" it up and it's out of the way. Obviously due to it's great mobility and usefulness than a "bike stand", we're just not sure what to call it...it "stands" the bike up, and you "kick" it to put it up...gee, I wonder...

Haha... well my bike is kickstand and bikestand-less... and probably will remain so for a while until I get a job to get a bike stand, or a overhang rack for my garage...

Well, if you're looking for a cheap way to keep your bike out of the way in your garage, basic bike hooks are very cheap:

I have to concur. Season 13 was the best since 10. Shame they are ending it though. Hope you enjoy your bike. I can vouch for the versatility of the Allez. Once you get in shape I'd consider racing. Have fun!

When I saw the pics in your original post I was going to mention that Greenfield makes a black kickstand, but I see you have removed said device...

...my road bikes are sans kickstand but the hybrid I tow the kid trailer with has a kickstand (it's a black bike with black rims and black components, I had to get a black kickstand for it )
