Even then, cotton won't filter out viral or otherwise most biohazardous particles.

I say we get together a class action lawsuit.

Good point.

dude, you can get new shorts on eBay for that price! If I were you (and I'm glad I'm not if you're buying used bibs), I would go for those.

Performance Bibs

I was at performance checking out their bibs. Well, I was looking at the chamois to see how well they were constructed. You know how they have a really awesome return policy. I realized how this policy can be bad when I saw a hair in the chamois. Yum.

Buy new bibs at Performance on sale.

Many diseases that could be transmitted through such forms of clothing will not be killed using simple chemical sterilization techniques. This is why the only approved ways to sterilize surgical equipment is either an autoclave or a special, multistage chemical system which is not preferred and is used when an autoclave is not practical.

If you can throw them in an autoclave, go for it. I wouldn't though. Not only for sanitary reasons but because they will likely be worn out. Splurge on new bibs - which can be had pretty cheap on sell, especially on amazon.com - and the will be new and you will get tons more use out of them before you have to chuck them. You will also get peace of mind too.

Flatballer 07-20-09 07:58 PM

It's also illegal to ship used underwear. Bibs are underwear, therefore, I think it's probably illegal in more ways than one.

Class action indeed!

Thank you for the info and answering my original question, I will go for new.

Here are some bib shorts for $36 with a chamois. I do not know how good of quality these bibs are but I am pretty sure that they would be better than a worn out chamois.

@thompsonpost - Are you calling me a troll? Or someone else/whole thread in general? Or the OP? I don't see a problem with the OP or my response. I don't know about shorts but I know that body art studios and hospitals are required to use proper sterilization techniques and that they are suppose to use an autoclave or a multistage dip/soak chemical system. Yes, alcohol will kill germs and bacteria, but many viruses can stand up to some harsh stuff. And lots of those viruses are incurable so I would be very careful.

You can just cut out the chamois and sew a pillow on the bib.

According to Wikipedia:

"In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or collaborative content community with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional or disciplinary response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.[2]

My intent was not to disrupt, I am actually asking this question. i was looking at EBay and I do see several listings for "pre-owned" bibs! At first I was grossed out, but maybe there is nothing "unsanitary" about it other than the idea.

Thanks to DwayneS, I have further information to turn me away from used shorts. Proof positive right there that BF is more than just figuring out what lube is best and being told to flip it.

:thumb: to Dwayne.

Thompsonpost, I think you forgot to install the saddle before throwing the leg over.

Ask a question that hints at just how dumb you are, then get offended when people make fun of you.

I'm not offended, I was just informing people that I was not trolling.

I'm not dumb either, I was just collecting information. The dumb person would have just gone ahead and bought the used shorts/bibs on ebay without asking questions first.

If you go on ebay and search completed listings, you will see that people actually buy the used bibs!

under18cyclists 07-20-09 10:26 PM

Buy $40 ones like I did, they hold up fine unlike used bibs.

The original dude was just asking a question about used biking gear in hopes of saving money. He was researching people's opinions and facts. Just because you don't know something doesn't make you dumb for asking. Take kids for example. All kids are "dumb" as you like to call it, but as they grow up, they ask questions, and acquire knowledge. Obviously you didn't grow up yet.

If you're offended by this statement, then allow me to re-phrase your original statement. "Make a dumb statement, then get offended when people make fun of you."

The list of icky, used items is long.
Bibs are on the list.

mustang1 07-21-09 01:47 AM

Don't do it. The chamois would be worn out. It's a false economy. WTF?

thump55 07-21-09 06:13 AM

I think people selling used shorts/bibs on Ebay should be required to put a picture of themselves in the bibs right in the auction.

I don't even like wearing a rented tux...but the folks after me have it worse (points to avatar...)

AngryScientist 07-21-09 06:18 AM

my opinion is if you want to save money, dont buy ANY additional bibs, wash the ones you have more often.

That's what is creeping me out. Buying used underwear through an online auction, then going to a public forum to ask if it's a cool thing to do or not. That's just weird. Sorry, but I just can't get my head around it.

This is actually misleading. Urine IS sterile when it first exits your body. It is, however, also the perfect food for growing bacteria, which means as soon as it sits out for more than a couple minutes it's going to become nasty town really quick.
