Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

10 speed cassettes

I recently got a new ride that came w/ Bontrager select hubs (2005) and a 9 speed setup. will a 10 speed cassette fit this hub without issues? Are there any compatability concerns for campagnolo cassettes as compared to shimano in respect to the hub or rear derailieur (ultegra now but will probabably switch to chorus)? 10 speed upgrades are much more available. Thanks

I think all wheel hubs, Shimano & Campy are 9/10 compatible. Shimano has 1 spline pattern and Campy has another. If you have 9 now, switching to 10 means a new cassette, possibly new chain, and definately new right hand shifter (applies to Campy, Shimano & Sram).

Shimano & Campy are not compatible. Pick one or the other. Shimano & Sram are compatible.

However, if you want to use your Shimano wheels with a Campy 10 speed drivetrain, then you will need a conversion cassette such as American Classic, or Jtek shiftmate to adapt your rear derailleur.

so If I were to purchase this conversion cassette would it just slide onto my freewheel and be ready to go (w/new shifters, derailieur, chain) or would the wheel still need to be redished/aligned.

yes it will slide on to the freehub ... good to go. (freewheels are from the old days)

When switching between any wheels, you often need to tweak the derailleur adjustment because the spacing is a tiny bit different from one hub to the next. Usually 1 turn of the adjuster up or down.
