Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: windsor wellington 2.0

Windsor Wellington 2.0 Review

This is my first road bike, and so far i love it. I have had it for a few weeks now and have had no problems. I bought this bike for $400 from Bikes Direct. It was shipped fast (5 days) and arrived in perfect condition.

- The shimano sora componets are very good (in my opinion) for the price.
- This bike is pretty light.
- Feels very strong.
- Smooth ride.
- Some what stiff.
- White paint job looks sharp.

Bad stuff

- Clip and strap pedals.
- Cheap pedals.
- Quill stim.
- Cheap tires.
- Could be more stiff.

If you are looking for a entry level bike you should consider getting this one.

Would you say it compares favorably with bikes costing up to twice as much in a store?

Well, after all, Windsor lists this bike at $699, or so I'm told....

I got one for under $400.00 about 2 weeks ago.
Love it. Glad I went this direction. Would do it again.
It needed some drivetrain tuning but after that it was fine.

My only con is the cheap tires.

A shill is an associate of a person selling goods or services or a political group, who pretends no association to the seller/group and assumes the air of an enthusiastic customer. The intention of the shill is, using crowd psychology, to encourage others unaware of the set-up to purchase said goods or services or support the political group's ideological claims. Shills are often employed by confidence artists. The term plant is also used.

Shilling is illegal in many circumstances and in many jurisdictions[1] because of the frequently fraudulent and damaging character of their actions. However, if a shill does not place uninformed parties at a risk of loss, but merely generates "buzz", the shill's actions may be legal. For example, a person planted in an audience to laugh and applaud when desired (see claque), or to participate in on-stage activities as a "random member of the audience", is a type of legal shill.

"Shill" can also be used pejoratively to describe a critic who appears either all-too-eager to heap glowing praise upon mediocre offerings, or who acts as an apologist for glaring flaws. In this sense, they would be an implicit "shill" for the industry at large, possibly because their income is tied to its prosperity.

What more could one ask for?

Tomorrow UPS will deliver my family's third BD bike, a Fantom 29er that my youngest son bought to take to college. Our other two are Bottecchia w/Record Carbon and Windsor w/105 road bikes. Our other road bikes are Holdsworth, wife's Bianchi, and Viner steel classics kitted with Vicenza jewelry, middle son's Tommaso w/105 from RSCycle, and wife's Giant TCR w/Centaur Carbon. The classics are works of art, but the new bikes have 10spd+brifters, better brakes, better NVH, and are lighter and more comfortable. No surprise, but the wife and kids prefer the new bikes. Buying bikes online is a great option for people with families.

OP,

Mistake # 1: only having 1 previous post before this one.

Mistake #2: Having your second post be about a BD bike you bought.

Mistake #3: Actually liking your bike and appreciating that for a beginner bike, it's not bad. (And it's not bad. Most entry level bikes are Sora equipped. However, Sora on a Trek is good, Sora on a Windsor sucks.)

Mistake #4: Having the nerve to express your satisfaction with your bike purchase on BF.

So sayeth the Lords of BF.

this.

OP, if you're not familiar with BD's history on BF, and you can't tell from the responses so far.

It isn't good.

But seriously, I had a Windsor Wellington 1.0 for a long time. I was thoroughly pleased with my purchase...

...until I rode something (anything) better. In retrospect (now riding full carbon / SRAM Rival) I marvel at how I ever managed to lug that lead machine up a hill.
