Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It would be a tremendous conflict . . . . I would be a mess.

It's just a nightmare scenario I hope I will never have to face.

I think Trek is the anti-snob bike. Especially the Madone.

Nope. Trek's team bikes are next year's stock models. The Litespeed Lance rode was a TT bike because Trek didn't make one at the time.

Not it isn't. While Windows isn't as bletcherous as it once was, it still trails the industry in every way except market share.

If the money was right, i'm sure we could get the top tier racers to ride a Motiv branded bike. This is nothing new to bike racing or MTB for that matter.
I'd like to know where you get your info.

Its been widely known that Lance's early TT bikes were Litespeeds. Then the TTX came out.

Lance's Madone he used in the mountain stages? That was the boron bike, the Madone 6.9 SSLX My shop sold one of the last ones back in '08.

That "special" wheelset that Keith Bontrager made for Lance? The Race XXX Lite. You can walk into any Trek dealer and buy yourself a set.

Trek uses its position in professional cycling to develop and test new product, but most of the stuff they test actually ends up on the showroom floor. Sometimes within a few months of when its first seen (case in point, the new 6 series Madones).

I don't know why everyone hates Trek, nor do I care.

EDIT: Most large bike manufacturers use their professional teams as development platforms. For example, look at Rabobank and the Giant Trinity, Saxo Bank and the Specialized Shiv.

I love my 5.5 looked at other bikes some with lesser components and way more $ then I paid for my Trek. I actually find the higher end Treks are better value than the lower end ones.

I really think they are nice bikes too. Not just well loved on BF. I'll get a Madone hand me down someday. BTW like Orbea's they fit me well right off the bat. It has been said Orbeas are the Trek's of Spain.

After some researching I do not think they really cost that bad... They do have bragging rights, so they could probably ask a little bit more. Everyone drives a Toyota too.

- Hand made in the USA
- Race developed/tested by the best team in the world
- Integrated 90mm bottom bracket
- Integrated chainstay speed/cadence sensor
- Asymmetric Fork
- Full DI2 integration
- 100% customizable option

I totally see why people hate Trek. If paying more for an imported name with potentially less innovation is what it takes to be a cool roadie, I'll pass. Don't get me wrong I'd take a sweet imported bike because I pretty much like ALL quality bikes. It just did not make sense to pay more and get what seemed like less just to be different. I try to be unique in other ways but tend not to worry too much about it either way.

Ok, so who actually hates Trek? It seems that a handful of vocal BF posters think Treks are, at worst, bland and uninspiring, and perhaps more expensive than other comparable bikes from other manufacturers. Pretty tame, and not exactly hateful.

Ding, Ding, Ding...We have a winner the biggest bike snob on the forum. Cares more about the stuff than actually riding. Pathetic.

One of the reason among many... why I dislike/despise the following brand:

Trek
Cervelo
Orbea

I find myself doing it myself in most things. I generally buy the quirky or unusual. But I got a good price on a 4.7, bought it and love it.

Truth - just ask anyone who has ever worked at a Trek dealer. These wheels are warrantied on the order or several a month, for the high-volume sellers. Apparently Trek has finally decided to do away with eyelet-less, paired-spoke wheels for 2010.

you folks do realize that you can hang whatever compatible fork, stem, handlebars, group set, wheels, crankset, saddle, and pedals on a bike that you want to, right?

I like Trek just fine. My commuter is a Trek, and when I bought a new road bike I fully intended to get a Trek. The problem? While I loved the Madone, I didn't love the 2.1 or 2.3. The geometry was too comfort-oriented, and at my price point I could get a much better bike from someone else.

It did look pretty rough the brake surface bur he swears he had it that long. My Mavic Reflexes had been rolling since 1997 (from previous owner) and I have a Campagnolo Omega Hardox that I am using now that I got used. If you've been around you know how old this rim is. Not everyone is that fat or heavy and we don't have that much humidity or salt water here.
