Because you can build it to ridiculously low weights...

My 2009 CAAD 9.7 with full Ultegra weighs 17.6lbs. Once I complete a century- I'm stripping it down and upgrading it with crazy light parts...shooting for 14.9lb TdF weights!

Some would say 'lemmings' . . . I won't, but some would. :D

This seems to be the stock answer from all the CAAD9 owners in my neck of the woods. None of the recreational riders around here use a CAAD9, only the racers. Because it's disposable.

A CAAD 9 rescued my family from a house fire.

I bought a CAAD 9 7 recently, I rode equivalent bikes from Trek and Specialized during the test ride process. In the end the CAAD felt the best, and was the best bang for the buck. I've been riding it for 3 weeks straight now (I ride 7.5 miles every morning before work and a longer ride on the weekends) and I really enjoy it, it feels light and responsive, the other manufacturers offerings are more the comfort oriented fit/geomertry at that price level. Also it has the advantage, as several people have pointed out, of being a race quality frame, so if/when I get more serious about it, it will be worth upgrading.

Thats a nice colour and a great weight. So my stock CAAD9-5 is 21 pounds [or so]. Is it that the Ultegra saves so much weight? Or did you change wheels, seat post etc too? I see that the wheels are Mavics?

Is this a joke? I think the CAAD 9-7 uses a combination of Sora and Tiagra components. Mavic 32 spoke rims.

Bicycling.com reviewed the bike and it came in at over 20 pounds!

And don't give me the "could be" line. Sure you might get it under 15lbs with the 50cm frame, SRAM Red, lightweight climbing wheels, lighter stem, bars, pedals, well everything. Now you're talking a $5,000 bike.

Consider yourself lucky. I woke up with a sore ass and a tattoo.

Dude, you have to do the "Crocodile Dundee test". You know, to make sure it's a sheila.

fordfasterr 08-25-09 09:18 AM
