Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I would call it conviction but whatev..i think it's funny how conversations about religion on the boards aren't supposed to happen but we can complain about the word faith and it's "connotation" all day long. perhaps the complaints about the word offend some of us just as much if not more than the simple word faith does to some of you.

Some people don't like to advertise their beliefs all over the place.

EDIT: Just realized this has the potential to go off the rails, so let's not turn this into a religion discussion

if those people truly believed in what they say they do then they wouldn't be ashamed, and would therefor have no reason not to advertise.

Guys,

To me it's better to stand for something than nothing at all. I'm just one of those people. We have a frame called the Truth. It was actually called the truth because when I was designing the frames I figured that aluminium frames were good enough for the pros in the 90s and should be good enough for us mere mortals, and that's just the TRUTH. So I named the frames truth.

Faith may not necessarily be about religion too, in fact I have none, and never intended for the word FAITH to mean anything other than having strong convictions and belief towards your frame. Sure all our bikes have fairly religious conceptual names, but that's been the way we've branded our frames from day 1.

Faith is also not a negative word. It's not like I'm calling the frames crucifixions, etc etc. It is a positive meaning word. I didn't remember people calling George Michael a cross carrying evangelist for singing you got to have faith, faith faith? ( or was that faitha, faitha, faith?)

In regards to my statement about not wanting to repeat myself, it is because I have stated in the groupbuy thread that nothing was firm, hence the price cannot be determined yet. It was a statement for user deltasierra. It wasn't "I'm not going to answer any questions I have already covered in the groupbuy thread," that wasn't my intention but can see how it could have been confused as such.

So, I am sorry some feel the word Faith is too strong and will be a determining factor in their purchase of the frame. But again it's a word I believe in, and not one I'm going to be removing anytime soon, because I have faith that you guys will change your minds

Sean,
Don't worry about these clowns. It looks like an excellent frame and those that recognize a solid and well designed frame will come in flocks to purchase it (including me). You can't please everyone. Is the name of the frame really that important? For a solid and very raceable ~$400 frame you can call it whatever you want.

How very narrow-minded. Someone could be, oh, not Christian and be bothered by paying for something that advertises Christian symbolism. Or someone might not want to do the equivalent of throwing their faith in everyone else's face. That's just tacky.

Faith itself, like I said, is not necessarily wearing your religion on your sleeve. However, when the company name is Soul, and you have have frames named Trinity, Corpus, and Deliverance, well, you don't get to beg off throwing your religion in everyone's face by pointing out that "Faith" is not specifically Christian, or religious.

If you can't see why this might be an issue for people, imagine what you'd think of a frame named "Holocaust". That, too, is just a word.

Further, not being religious (or Christian) doesn't mean you stand for nothing at all. That, again, is an attitude I'm used to hearing from people who can't fathom any different beliefs. You are going to alienate potential customers with that imagery (and that attitude, now that you're making it clear where you're coming from). If you're ok with that, go nuts, but don't be surprised. Names matter. If you have faith that I'll change my mind, you might want to examine your faiths more closely.

So everyone who doesn't agree with you is a clown? Good to know how open-minded you are. Again, names are important, and if you disagree, think about whether you'd ride a frame with "Taliban" emblazoned on it. I'm sure you'll say that's different, though. Try to realize other people may have different views and beliefs than you, and that taunting them is not going to make them happy, or agree with you.

The clownness isn't that you wouldn't buy it because it says soul and faith. It doesn't come from you telling the guy trying to sell the bike that you wouldn't buy it because it says soul and faith. The clownness comes in you guys trying to convince him that he needs to change the name of his product.

For all you know, he's got the entire catholic church lined up to buy frames.

No one said he had to; people said it was over the top (it is) and that they wouldn't buy it with that name (which I'd trust them on). Given the religious demographics of this country, it will likely not be an issue for him, but being surprised that it would bother and drive away some people is ignorant and narrow-minded.

haven't you guys made your point? you don't like the name. great. i'm guessing for others (<-includes me) don't really care about the bike's name. and why tread so closely to godwin's law?

can all of you dudes relax and go ride your bike instead of over analyzing decals on a frame? take two seconds to step back and realize how ridiculous you sound.

Ignorant and narrow minded is not riding a bike because it has the word faith on it. I guess my bike has "Streetfire" on it, maybe I shouldnt ride it because it is promoting vandalism.

Grow up

Chill. Most people are talking about aesthetics here. It's not a big deal. Geez..

For example: I love sexy ladies. That doesn't mean I would want "sexy ladies" plastered on my bike.

No one has had the guts to answer my questions. Would you be fine riding a bike labelled, oh, say, "Mohammed Koran"? Of course most people wouldn't mind badging that matches their beliefs, but try to see why it could bother someone whose beliefs don't match it. Further, again, it is not just a frame named "Faith"; the entire line-up from this company is showing a very strong Christian slant. Can you realize this might turn off people who aren't Christian?

I'd love an answer to that and my first question in this post. All I actually expect is "LOL stop being a clown k'.

turn off?

I'm not a Christian (I'm a Moslem) and I bought a bike from Soul a couple of years ago. The bike is called 'Progeny' but doesn't appear on their list of offerings anymore. What's there to be turned off about? Like many already correctly pointed out- it is just a bike.

I think I could make guesses about the religious beliefs of everyone on this thread, and it wouldn't surprise me if 90% of those guesses were right.

Zing.

It's the 90% part that is of interest, not my confidence in myself.

I was thinking of Faith Hill when you named it Faith. She is not bad looking.
