Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Need your help!!

We were ready to pull the trigger on a Madone 4.5 for my wife this weekend, but then we had a wrench thrown in the mix...

...a Fuji CCR1

A friend of ours bought the Fuji on closeout last year and its been in her garage, STILL IN THE BOX since. Never built up. It has a DA/Ultegra mix with Ksyrium Elite wheels. The frame is my wife's size and we were offered a deal that makes the FUJI the same price as the Madone 4.5 (approx $2,000). The Madone is all 105/Tiagra and comes with Bonty SSR wheels. The Fuji is CLEARLY a better value (MSRP $3700), HOWEVER any fit adjustments are on our nickel and we have to assume we get no warranty. The Madone is a better looking bike and we have a good friendship with the LBS (who would also include fitting).

Does anyone know enough about either of these to make a relevant suggestion??

Fuji. At most, you might need to switch stems. Yeah, get the Fuji. You won't regret it.

I'll say it again. Get the Fuji, it's too sweet a deal to pass up.

I do believe it is a no brainer. The rest of your out of the pocket expense in getting it put together with a fit from you LBS and maybe a new stem(?) would be in the $2-300 range and then like you said you have a better groupo.

I would definitely get the Fuji. You can use the saved cash to get a bike fit at your LBS. I'm sure they will understand if you feel bad about not buying from your LBS.

do you know your friend well enough that you can get your friend to submit warranty claims?

also, FWIW, performancebike is running a sale on new CCR-1 bikes that'll end up being $2400 before tax; however the bike is a Ultegra/105 mix instead of DA/Ultegra mix

thanks guys - I appreciate the encouragement. I'm a high-end tech nut and if someone posted the same thing, I'd probably push the Fuji too, but you know it all changes when you're in the questionable situation. Its nice to have some 3rd party views.

Yeah, these friends are close and I totally trust them. In fact, we believe the warranty card has never been filled out on the bike - should still be in the box. I'm hoping that if it hasn't been filed with Fuji that we still can. That would be a great benefit.

As for the LBS, I'm sure they'll understand. In fact, they offered us a pretty short deal on the Madone, so they aren't banking off us buying a bike from them.
