Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

One Year Ago Today ...

One year ago today, on August 24, 2008, Rowan and I got up early, rode a century (100 miles) in the Canadian Rockies near Jasper ....... and then got married on a dock over Lake Annette.

BTW what is the gift for year one? (Answer: Paper but I think you can substitute with rubber tires)

The century was great! Gorgeous mountain scenery and all.

How about substituting cleats ... Rowan picked up new cleats the other day. But actually we're celebrating by spending 3 weeks travelling around Tasmania, and because we've spent most of our first year of marriage on the opposite sides of the world, it kind of feels like a honeymoon.

BTW - we met here on BF back in 2003.

Thanks! Yes, it's been quite a year with most of it spent apart on the opposite sides of the world going through all sorts of challenges.

No ... unfortunately I ended up in hospital for 2 weeks just recently with DVT. I haven't cycled in a long time but am gradually building up my strength. The Warfarin (drug to prevent clot formation), however, is taking its toll on me.

Well we've both done a few of them, so we're used to that sort of distance.
