Age does not matter. All that matters is you are sure you are going to ride it and enjoy the ride.. To remain healthy after 40 , you need it all the more..
Kids after 40..?.. If you have the time, then you will really need it.

While not true, on the off-chance that it does crack, all companies I know have free lifetime frame replacement if something like that happens

I'll never understand why people always feel like they have to justify to others what they do and why. You did the work, you made the money, it is not hurting anyone, and it only has to make sense to you. Like patentcad says, and I feel like I need to re-evaluate my life for quoting him, F.... them and f... them all!!!
Get whatever you want and enjoy it!!

Do it, damn it! That way, I will not be the only idiot around. Just bought a BMC Race Master SLX01 frame, built it up with SRAM Red bought on eBay and do not regret it one stinking bit. So far it outperforms all my other bikes except my Litech Mg frame with DA 7800.

I just started riding again at 55 after a 20+ year lapse. Rode an old girls mountain bike for a couple of weeks to see if I could stay on it without training wheels. (I did fall a couple of times getting off I ordered a new bike after three weeks and have been loving every minute of it.
It's not how the bike feels, but rather how you feel on the bike. Buy the machine that makes you want to ride more often and enjoy it

I'm on the Edge of making the decision to buy my first real bike. My current ride is a specialised Allez Elite bought back in 2005 that I chose on the Colour and its reduced price.
Now after a great trip to the Alps I'm toying with the Idea of spending out on a Bike on of my dreams. I turning 40 ( oh my god that's the first that's be written down ! ) and am looking to treat myself with a Canyon Ultimate CF. Its the Mid life crisis purchase before kids come along.
Is there some Mantra you can chant to make you feel good about spending thousands of cash on a bike!
I keep thinking I could get a good car for the same!
Just a thought. Maybe just councelling?

True signs of mid life crisis: trading in the current wife for a younger model, tatoos, piercings, and of course the mandatory Harley Davidson.
Get the bicycle.
