My first reaction is: who cares?! If you look at a climber like Andy Schleck and your only response is "ewww look at his tiny arms," you may have bigger problems...

I will never be a pro level (IF by a meager slim chance I was bound genetically to have a nice head start)... I neither have time or financial support to dedicate at finding out....
On that note - I'd gladly take good sized quads and good sized arms. Yeah, extra weight is extra weight and I'm at a performance disadvantage just on the oxygen consumption alone, but my preference is to be good looking all-around (it is a benefit to being healthy, no?)... and skinny arms aren't an image im willing to negotiate to gain a few yards distance. YMMV.

My arms never were big, but now after 30 days in a sling, my left arm looks like a twig. I hope in another month it gets back to normal (skinny) size.

I occasionally have issues opening screw-caps on water-bottles. My friend who is a cyclist and plays baseball is fairly strong. (varsity team) I'm quicker for sustained speed and lacking a bit in sprinting but guess what? On a hundred meter hill with a 15-20% grade (one of the steepest hills in my area) I killed him by 10 seconds. While upper-boy strength is a component of having well-rounded fitness we are cyclists and need to go quickly on a bike even if we sacrifice upper-body strength. BTW: I'm 5'10'' and 124 lbs. I would like to know how you tri-dorks would do in a real TT or a hill-climb.

I just realized today that I could roll up my jacket sleeves without unbuttoning the cuff.
OP, don't you think this was kind of an inappropriate place to mock the figure of a pro cyclist?

+1 though I think, (and hope) he meant that figuratively. I live and do most of my riding in and around NYC, at times I find myself in sketchy locales and always, ALWAYS carry a blade with me, (for protection, of course). Not that it can really do much, but hey, you never know.

I think overblown gym gorilla muscles are disgusting. I find them a total turn-off. I vastly prefer men that have lean muscle mass from hard work and not from shooting roids or spending 5 hrs in a gym lifting weights in a vaguely ****-erotic environment.
FYI I'm female. I think pro cyclists are some of the most gorgeous male specimens on the planet, the lean muscle mass in their arms and legs makes me well, drool.
Being a gym gorilla with ugly giant muscles is a liability with sports like running and cycling, too. I used to run and they had a formula for weight + height + age they could predict how much longer it would take you to finish a race.
I'm jealous of people who are naturally slim and don't battle to keep excess weight off like I do. Damned genes.
