Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Do you want new or used?? To enjoy a huge savings a used bike
in good to fair condtion should be considered. (Very often
way less than $50 for very nice used bike)

there are a lot of bikes that are entry level and are 9 speed. performance bike has some alum/carbon bike with ultegra/ritchey components that are 9 speed and around $1200. or u can get a specialized allez sport for around $800. it all depends on ur budget.

When I looked a couple of months ago, an entry level 9-speed at the back is around the $800 mark, normally with mostly Tiagra components with the main differentiators being things like a carbon fibre fork and a 105 rear derailleur. The most commonly found examples are going to be the Trek 1200, Giant OCR2 and Specialized Allez Sport.

I've been told that a good time to get a bike is just after the '05 bikes come out because then all the '04 bikes will be on sale. It all depends on how long you want to wait.

try www.bikesdirect.com - any road bike with Tiagra or higher should be 9 sp.
