What temperature do you bring out the arm/leg warmers?
It's been about 65* lately and have been thinking about when to bring out the arm/leg warmers. Looks like they might come out at around 60*.
When do you bring them out?
What do you use first? Just leg warmers or just arm warmers?
main reason for this thread is I have been hearing from a lot of people you want to bring out the leg warmers at 60* so your knees stay warm and don't get damaged from thousands of cycles in cold weather. Also you can just throw on arm warmers whenever you're a little cold but there are "set" times for the legs.
Any truth to this?

I actually use lightweight tights and lightweight, long sleeve jerseys instead of leg and arm warmers. (I don't like fiddling with the warmers.) For me, the change-over is around 57*. Below that, and they definitely come out, even in the sun. Above that and, if it's dark, the change-over is 59*.
Heavier tights and jerseys come at 50* and under.

I'd heard/read the 65F rule too. Probably on BF, I would guess. This time of year, it's often around 60-65F when I leave the house in the morning, but since it's obviously going to warm up, I don't bother.

I use knee warmers in 50-70F temperatures. Leg warmers below 50F.
For temperatures that are not too chilly and expected to warm up soon, I have a set of lightweight Castelli knee warmers that take up less than half of a jersey pocket. They are made from a stretchy lycra fabric with a wind resistant coating, but no insulation.

The mid 40's. I'm a bit more comfortable in the upper 40's with them but will often live without them rather than remove them an hour after starting the ride.
It's the legs that kill me. I hate knee warmers but I don't need tights until I hit the mid 30's. From the upper 30's through the lower 40's I have no "happy medium."

arm warmers @ 65F
leg warmers @ 55F
Second layer @ always but vary type depending on temps.
Tight over bibs @ <45F
Gillet @ <60F
Toe warmer <60F
In reality, it is the temp that YOU feel not the one others tell you.

Edit: for me, it's anything below 60 for arm warmers. I never wear leg warmers, but light tights over my shorts. Below 40, I wear heavy tights and jackets.

I hate that we're a top-tier country (sure, some may argue that point, but it's true!) yet we are one of only three countries worldwide that hasn't officially adopted metric. Burma, Liberia and us. That's not the sort of company I want to be in.

What is the humidity? Is it raining? Will it warm up quickly or be cold and wet all day?

I'm very amused at all the California riders with their arm and leg warmers on dry 60F+ days.
Give me a wet, cold English winter's day and I might consider a jacket over my jersey and leg warmers. Arm warmers if I go with out the jacket in dry weather. Booties with plastic grocery bag liners are a given to keep rain out. Otherwise its shorts & short sleeves down to about 10 °C in the dry.
I still remember the day my leg hairs collected freezing fog on the way to work

well, which part of California? I'm sure in the North or the mountains you will want warmers. The only time I've wanted something to keep warm with while riding was around midnight in the middle of winter, but even then I warmed up and sweaty pretty quickly.

Leg warmers or tights come out at 70F. Yes, it can be a little sweaty, but I've noticed much less pain in my IT bands and biceps femoris tendons.

Arm warmers 60 to 65. Depending on humidity.. leg warmers.. below 55.. Below 55 you might see me add my base layer.. Winters here are mild. Coldest mornings can be 35.. Since I discovered UnderArmour it's rare I need my cycling winter jacket.. Just a windstopper and good base layer will do.
