Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This is an interesting subject. Does anyone make any valve caps out there, that are lighter than not running valve caps? Some sort of solid helium forging or something like that?

What you need, my friend, is a couple of these...

Turn your Presta valves into Schrader valves and the gaudy possibilities are endless.

As do the Bontrager superlight tubes, which must be rebranded Kenda.

Just to poke the monkey a little, I don't use the caps either. Who does?

I don't know about that but if you run box section rims you can save a ton of rotating weight by using shorter valve stems.

Don't forget the primer and to sand between coats. I typically use a wet/dry sandpaper to about 2-300 grit. Afterwards, it may be necessary to chase the threads. As always, eye protection and a respirator are ideal to use in these situations.

DAMN.. I already use those, so I was gonna get some tireflys on the way home and post pics (with receipt time). I could use them for the Halloween ride anyways. Maybe I still will.

Also, do you REALLY think this will stop at 3 pages?

I have to confess.. I did have a set of red caps that migrated from tube to tube anytime i changed one. Eventually I lost one, and cracked the other. Now the yellow cap glares at me in disgust like the scrawny kid who got picked last for dodgeball.

Actually, I'd use the red spraypaint that is specific to plastic. Normal Krylon or Rustoleum won't usually hold onto that surface.

And this would be a good use for your old intertubes as you can screw the cap onto the old presta valve, then paint away. No worries about having the cap fall over or blow away when painting.
