Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

alpha q prolite seatpost - stay away!

I bought on of these a few weeks back. It was light, cheap, and pretty comfortable. I recently tried to move my saddle up a bit and found that the bolt you tighten against with the rear tightener unfastened from the post and is now as far as I can tell impossible to fix. Plus since I can't loosen it my saddle is stuck on the post!!!

Just wanted to see if anyone has had similar problems, warn future buyers of this, and also see if anyone here might have any ideas on fixes. Here is my thread about it in the bike mechanics forum:

The back bolt can be cut in two and the saddle will come off. Use a hacksaw or Dremel cutoff wheel.

The design is obviously poor, since the nut on top of the back bolt can spin. Others use a differently shaped nut that can't spin. The front adjuster should be made of one piece, from steel. The plastic wheel is another poor design.

Selcof makes posts with a similar design that works properly, but does require an 8mm wrench for the front bolt.

I use the FSA K-force. No problems with it.

I have a similar post.
front plastic wheel is not meant to be turned while under tension, it will strip.
