Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Starting to Race

I just took up cycling a few months ago and I'm already addicted. I ride every day and hope to accomplish my first century ride here in the next few weeks. My question is, how does the categorization work? Am i automatically a cat 5? do i need to get a license from usacycling to move into a cat 4? Basically, I went to usacycling.org and found NOTHING that was helpful. I just need to know where to start and how to get the ball rolling on racing and the like. Thanks.
