I don't have Jawbones or Radars. I do have two pairs of Flak Jackets, which I like quite a bit. They fit just right, the optics are excellent, no fogging, and they stay in place most of the time. However, I bought a pair of Tifosi Stelvio's, and they are all I wear on the bike now. All the benefits of the Oakleys I have, at 1/3rd the price. And I don't care of they get busted. Win-Win.

KoKoPuff 10-05-09 02:27 PM

I just got some Radar Paths, and they're great. When looking up there is no obstruction from the top bar, and these things don't fog up at all either.

jwible 10-05-09 02:34 PM

Anybody rocking Project Rudy glasses anymore?

pinwheel 10-05-09 04:59 PM

I have yet to see a pair of Oakleys with backside AR coating. kinda disappointing after all their advertising squabble about optics.

Mansram01 10-05-09 05:20 PM

I have both the Half Jacket (Ice Iridium and Persimmon lenses) and the Jawbone (Black Iridium Polarized VR28 and Persimmon). I love them both. You get what you pay for.

I almost purchased the Tifosi Dolomite with the Fototec lens but it felt a bit too small and a bit cheap/flimsy. The price savings would've been awesome but I opted for the Jawbone instead. Oakley's are overpriced though. The Jawbone was over twice as much as the Tifosi...

Soloist Assassin 10-05-09 05:23 PM

I have Flak Jackets now, and I like them. Much lighter than my old Juliets I lost, and probably the easiest, quickest to change lens with. I've owned probably 15-20 pairs of Oakleys in my life. I like these better than most. The Radars, and Jawbones, are just too flashy for me.

i am and i have to say that my exowinds blow my flak jackets out of the water. the only downside is the rudys don't fit into my helmet vents so i have to wear them around the back of my head if i am not using them.

rangerdavid 10-05-09 05:36 PM

so OP, how do you get the Tifosi's for a tenth of the cost of the Oakley's??

WCroadie 10-05-09 06:43 PM

Tifosi was a sponsor for my team this past year, I got two pairs at a pretty low cost, the lenses are very good, the glasses are pretty light, but I too had the fogging problem, the dolomite's I wear even have little vents in the lenses, but they fog pretty bad. I have the Ventoux's as well, they fog up easily as well. In just about every race I ended up taking off my tifosi's because they would fog and not vent too well. A few others on my team had the same issue.

I just bought a pair of oakley half jacket's from some dude for $50, one lense has a small scratch, still the optics are soooo nice. I just can't get myself to spend $$$ for a pair of glasses that could get ruined very easily, but I am weakening, I want a new pair of flak jackets or radars so bad.

SemperFi87 10-05-09 06:45 PM

I cannot say whether or not the Oakleys are worth it, it all comes down to budget and personal preference. I will say that they stand behind their warranty, and I have had several pairs of new lenses sent to me for free for different frames over the years. Oddly enough, none of the damage was cycling related, but it was good stuff nonetheless. Also, if you happen to be in the military and don't mind black, you can more or less get them for free.

Oakley is also one of the few companies to take REALLY good care of federal agents as well as military personnel. For that I'll always be loyal to them, even when I'm paying full price like my Jawbones.

I think I'm just oging to stay with Tifosi for now. Our Tifosi rep came in today and showed off a new frame from Tifosi that looks a lot like the Radar, and then our Giro rep came in and showed off some of their cool new stuff.

Oakley Radat fit me perfectly and are so comfortable. However I didn't wanna spend £130 on them so bught Specialized San Something for £80 instead. They fit me almost as comfortably. I cant compare performance though as I never rode Radar on the bike.

Twigman503 10-05-09 09:57 PM

I bought myself a pair of ebay glasses and a brand new saddle for less than a pair of Oakleys. I'm far to clumsy to trust myself with >$150 glasses but I certainly wouldn't decline if I was given a pair.

Eclectus 10-05-09 10:36 PM

Oakleys are totally overrated. They do this subversive brand-loyalty thing, pay pros to make their shades "I wanna be like the pros" and people line up like sheep to buy their latest and greatest.

Those are pretty cool, I'd be willing to give them a try next season if Tifosi continues to sponsors us.

That's your opinion and no one can argue with you about your opinion. I disagree, I don't think they are overrated. Over priced, yes but not overrated.

this was my experience. the fogging up with the Tifosi's becomes a real pain when flying mid pack of an aggressive ride on a wet day.

i also agree that Oakley's may be over priced, but in no way are overrated. later.

I'm old school. As long as Oakley makes replacement lenses for my M frames (I started with Razor?--you know the LeMond ones-- 1989) I'm happy. My wife has a half-jacket, two kids have Oakleys (the third loves my heirloom 1974 B & L aviators for their ultra-cool retro factor.) I would sort of like to get a polarized lens, but I don't think it is worth an extra 50 bucks and particularly since I've noticed that my polarized Revos and LCD displays have incompatibility issues.

Sometimes they fog up on long, slow climbs, but I use RainX on my glasses, so I don't get much fogging a all in the rain.

dmb2786 10-06-09 07:43 PM

I like my Radars over my tifosis, but those ones you posted are looking pretty cool.

Oakley> I like the optics. they're totally ballin. They sometimes give me pain over the ears
Tifosi> Cheap, comes with other lenses, Useless in the rain for me, Frame impairs my sight a bit. not so ballin
