Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Zero loss means less lever throw to shift. On the rear shifter, this is a pretty minor thing. I noticed when I switched from Force to Red shifters, but it wasn't a huge deal. On the front shifter, it was huge, which is why they added it to Rival and Force.

Thanks for the explanation. It sounds a bit like Campy's Quick Shift

I don't think you should limit yourself to Dura Ace and Red. If money really isn't an problem, then surely that puts "overpriced" Campagnolo parts back in the picture, right? And even if money is an issue, Campagnolo parts are not totally outrageous. You usually pay more for cassettes, but get it back in the shifters etc. Also, I think Force is a great alternative to Red, now that they have upgraded it.

I agree 100%. Just keep the da 7800. 7900 gets grindy after it gets dirty -- annoying. Red is cool, but not Shimano -- just sayin'.
