I have fallen recently because of them, although I don't blame them. In a 100 mile MTB race, midway through the day I had jumped off to cross a rocky dry river bed, when I got back on and went to pedal, my legs instantly crapped up right after I clipped in. I fell like a log, but got a good laugh out of it. That was one long day. 100 mile mtb race is much harder then 100 mile road race.

my cleats were too loose... so i couldn't unclip... goddamn 20 degrees of float! lol, sure learned my lesson...

Yes .. And I managed to pull my groin in the process. I am still trying to figure that one out.

Up until 3 weeks ago, I had only ridden with platform pedals, but with a new road bike, I went with the Speedplay light action pedals. I have not fallen yet, but I am very conscious about getting my feet out well in advance of stopping. I imagine it is only a matter of time.

I don't think the poll results bear that out.

well what kind of idiot would claim "everybody" falls.

most is short for almost everyone. I don't know that I could assign a percentage to it, but in my mind 73% is not "almost everyone"

Thought of the other way, if "most" people fall, then it would be rare to not fall, but more than 1/4 of the responders said they did not fall, therefore it is not rare.

Anyway, people always say "everybody" falls. I challenged that statement in another thread and they responded that 99% fall. I challenged that and they said that "most" fall. I just wanted to try to quantify it.

I fell during a group ride a day after I got my clipless pedals. The group leader didn't call out a car in enough time and I had to stop unexpectantly...unclipped on the right, fell over left.

We could agree that in a BF poll (not every cyclist in the world), among those who answered it (not every BF clipless users) those who fell were more that those who didn't.

This is becoming a semantic argument, I would prefer to just let the numbers speak for themselves. The point of the thread was to illustrate that although falling [from inability to operate their pedals] is fairly common it is not a foregone conclusion, and there are a good number of people who have managed to avoid it.

The only time I've fallen I was actually stopped with one foot unclipped and on the ground. I was on a slight incline and turned to talk to someone. When I turned around the front wheel turned slightly and then rolled which made me lose my balance and I fell over. It was pretty damn funny.
