Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's snowing here. In the Hudson Valley.

And it's 38º. At friggin NOON. On October 15th.

At least it's not sticking.

Somebody shoot me.

And yes, I did ride this morning. 34 miles. On the Ibis Winter Bike. With the halogen headlamp, the winter tires, and the fenders.

Ride when it's cold enough to freeze your bearings and then come back and blog about it.

Good thing I'm on vacation.

I'll be sure to post a ride report from Palomar tomorrow and the weekend--supposed to be 80's all week!

I miss NY already...

You do realize it is going to get colder before it gets warmer...

I am looking forward to some tele-skiing and snow shoeing...

Snow? That stuff in the little glass balls that floats around when you shake them?

How very odd.

Nice and warm.
Last week when our weather took a nose dive it hit 15F at night and warmed up to a balmy 28F for several days. My sprinkler system was not thrilled.

I'm hoping it gets above 40 for my ride this afternoon at 3:00. But it is dry--so far.

Supposed to snow here soon for the weekend. Cross racing on Sunday. Last year for this race I almost had a heat stroke.

41 degrees here and solid rain. I'm expecting a nasty winter and am going to try on a few pairs of winter cycling boots this afternoon.
Just out of curiosity, what are your winter tires?

Hey pcad - I grew up down the road from you (Plattekill) and usually miss it - except for right now. Hopefully we've got at least another month before we should see any of the white stuff out here in STL.

It's been like that for a week already here. I'm still riding to work, though.

Well they need to start building up that 25" base over at Mt. Peter--might as well start early. That's some good slidin' right there.

It already snowed here Saturday night. Three inches on the ground Sunday morning.

Of course, it was warm, sunny, and dry on Monday.
