Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just asking for your opinion...

Why did you get Rival shifters instead of Force?

Sexy bike though.

If you havn't seen that image already, for the love of Merlin, do not expose yourself to it.

Very little if any difference in performance... and for $200 shipped... you cannot beat that. Rival is the bomb. Awesome stuff for the money.

Why does it make more sense than single tap shifting? Great looking bike, by the way.

To me it makes more sense to use one lever than move the whole brake lever and have a 2nd lever for the other shift. I keep one lever at my finger tip and use as needed. Very intuitive. This is coming from a very happy and satisfied Dura Ace apologist for over a decade.

DUDE! It reminded me of the same thing. That picture is horribly disturbing.

Great looking build/bike...but seriously:

You HAVE to explain the bought/sold/reacquired thing. C'mon man, let's hear the story to go with the bike!

Oh, and how do you like the Prologo saddle?

I was curious but a bit wary of the double-tap system when I first tried it but I liked its functionality right away. I preferred the Campy style to Shimano because I wouldn't have to move the brake lever, so SRAM's system was the best of both worlds since you can do your shifting with one lever.

Awesome looking bike by the way. I find something very appealing about Ti bikes and their minimalistic look.

Coming from Campy I definitely did screw up some downshifts on the first ride or two, but I agree-once you're accustomed to the doubletap shifters they're quite nice.

Here ya go! Here's the story: https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycling/587489-my-merlin-build-thread.html

I was very surprised of the comfort of the Prologo saddle. And as a bonus the silver cover is more of a titanium hue and matches the bike perfect!

I recently adjusted the cables a bit so the tension is nice, no more mushy shifting which makes it even nicer. I really like the ergonimics of the shifters though, work perfectly with my hands; Shimano shifters aren't too comfortable if you have smaller hands and the pivot point on the brake levers doesn't work for me as well as the SRAM.

Force Dérailleurs, Force brakes. Rival shifters just as nice as Force and saved $100. Rival crankset, stiffest freakin' crank on earth! For $139 shipped you can't beat it.

So you got the frame back for $300?!

Please tell me you will ride this bike. It's looks hardly broken in yet after a decade...

P.S. Great job on the build; everything looks great!

Phew, that is quite a nice looking bike!

Thankfully, I have a few years to plan out my Ti build I still can't decide on a level or sloping TT.

Anyway, I just got a new bicycle this summer so I'm going to ride that like crazy for a few years, then pick me up some Ti.

It's a KCNC post... with a post that long I wanted it to be fairly light... and I wanted alloy to match stem. The KCNC is a popular "weight weenie" post that's works well and very light. Looks cool too. The zero setback works perfect for me.

The bars are ITM 101 bars. I sanded them down logo free... then refinished them in a matte finish.

Yep! $300!!!! I will ride tha hell outta it. It's got some miles on it... but that's what makes Ti so great! an afternoon with a grade-B scotch brite pad and some #0000 steel wool... followed my some new decals from Merlin and you got yourself a frame that looks brand new! I love Ti.
