Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Computer for bladed spokes

Guys....

I need a simple computer to measure speed and distance (don't need anything more) with a magnet that will mount on flat bladed spokes in a radial laced front wheel (mounts on a single spoke). My old computer had a magnet made for rounded spokes in a cross pattern (mounted on 2 spokes)

Suggestions?

Would the Cateye Velos work?

Thanks.

Dave

The spoke magnet is a non-issue. You can pick up small, flat magnets at most hobby or hardware stores. Just tape onto spoke - I've been using them and they work fine.

usually you can adjust the receiving unit on the chain-stay to get closer to the magnet.

i had to do this when i started to use a loaner Mavic wheel with flat-bladed spokes as opposed to the Shimano rounded aero spokes from my wheel.

i'm not sure what type of receiver you have, but it's possible with the Garmin units

The magnets that come with most Cateye computers now should work fine with single bladed spokes. I've got one on my bike with bladed spokes myself, and it works great. It can even be screwed on by hand instead of with a screwdriver like they used to require.

Ask your LBS for just the magnet with mount for bladed spokes.

Seems cheaper than a whole new computer.
