Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Michelin Krylion Carbons

Is the general consensus on these tires that they are now prone to flatting since they are being manufactured outside of Germany?

Michelin is a French company. No bike tires are made in Europe today. Production has shifted to the Far East.

I haven't found any problems yet. Still appear to be a great combination of performance and durability.

I have a pair on my "A" bike, and have done two or three rides on them. They don't seem any more prone to the normal sort of flatting than the ones from last year were.

I did have a flat on my very first ride on them, but in that particular case, I ran over a gigantic screw, which lodged in the tire. Doesn't seem like a fair test of flat resistance to use something that catastrophic, and I think the comparable Continental or Vittoria tires would have flatted under those conditions as well.

The old ones were great, the new ones are garbage. get some GP4000s and you will be very happy (aside from the difficulty of mounting them)

Yea I have some 4000s and like them, but I have a chance to get some Krylions at an absurdly low price.

i havent noticed much, if any difference in the quality. it's certainly not a given that just because a company shifts its manufacturing off shore that the quality will go down.

Yea saw that. Not sure when production moved over to the far east so I wanted current opinions.

Who's concensus and what data would provide that these tires are now more prone to flats because it is no longer made in Germany? I haven't had a problem with mine, but I fail to see the correlation between flats and the manufacturing origin.

I think there was another thread that alluded to the reduced quality of the tire now that it was being manufactured elsewhere. I wanted to see if that was still the case.

Both countries still make great tires. I will always run these.
