Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I dream of having Seven or Spectrum. But the reality is likely to dictate me toward a Motocebane unless I hit a lottery before next Spring (I am planning to get a new bike then.)

Go Habanero!

Lovely frames, great service, cheap (by Ti standards). Then, buy a Bikes Direct donor bike for the parts. Comes out about as pricey as a Motobecane, but without the shame.

I have a Guru ti road bike. (I gather they no longer make ti bikes, concentrating on custom carbon?!?!)

I would love a custom ti bike from any of the highly regarded manufacturers (Eriksen, Baum, Strong, etc.), but Seven is at the top of my list. I have a Seven hardtail and it is amazing. So far no one has mentioned Serotta -- why is that?

Realistically, though, I think that if my wife gives me permission to get another bike it would be a BD Motobecane.

Bikes: Dean El Vado Titanium, Trek 4300

I bought a used Dean El Vado last August as my first road bike. Just got a new Lynskey R330 with Campy Chorus 11 and Eurus 2-way fit wheels. Already I can tell a big difference. Hills are much easier to climb, and it's stiffer yet very comfortable.

Granted: the El Vado has much cheaper wheels (Kore Gradient II). And the crankarms were 5 mm too long. That hinders spinning and climbing for sure. But the Dean geometry and frame isn't designed as much for speed as the Lynskey's. And Dean doesn't use shaped tubes. Which tends to translate into a less stiff, less fast bike.

I'd like to eventually change the Dean (when I have more $$) from its current triple chain ring to a double, along with the 170 mm crankarms (like the new Lynskey has). That would provide a more accurate comparison. But you still wouldn't have the geometry or the shaped tubes.

I'm turning the corner on 60 in January and just don't have the time needed to keep a painted frame looking pristine. My brushed ti bike always looks pristine. Sometime around the half century mark I began thinking of my bike as a tool instead of a statement.

Bill Davidson built mine, and this one:

I would be very comfortable getting another Davidson.

I have the last year of the Litespeed Classic and currently building a Performance (Lynskey built) Ti. I too think a Serotta would be nice.

Those Baum's are gorgeous, but I'd have to go with Eriksen.

I know what your saying but I'm young and Living on a military paycheck so droppin the cash for a ti frame would mean it would have to be functional and a statement. But then again I'm young and superficial.

I also am partial to the all-business look of my brushed ti frame. Also prefer the etched logos rather than painted or transfer type.

Serotta without question. If possible if you are ever in Saratoga Springs New York stop by the factory there and meet the guys who hand build the bikes from start to finish. Take a look at there offerings. I enjoy dealing with a company that I know if I have a major issue I can call the guy who's name is on the downtube personally and discuss whats up. There are not many bike builders out there with more Ti experience than Serrota

A couple of years ago, I bought a bespoke Ti frame from De Rosa. If I had to make the same decision again, I'd get a bespoke Ti frame from De Rosa.
