Vittoria Corsa Evo CX 320 vs. Conti GP 4000s
I'm about to place an order for a few sets of one of these and want to see if anyone has owned both and has advice for which is better. Both seem highly recommended although I haven't seen as much on the new 320tpi CX's.
I'm a Clyde and primarily do long solo or charity rides, no racing. Roads here have a fair amount of glass/debris. Are both of these good for a Clyde in 25mm width?

I found the CX's for a pretty good price, so I picked up a set - have about 1,000 miles on them, with no problems. I'd been using the GP4000's previously, both in a 25mm width. BTW, I weigh about 220. Both tires seem fine, the CX's are more supple at the same pressure. Both tires roll well, and seem to grip about the same in corners. I typically got 1,500 - 2,000 miles out of the rear GP4000, and from the looks of the tire right now I think the Vittoria in back will be on the low side of that, so it does look like the Conti's wear better. Overall I prefer the Vittorias, but the difference is small enough for a wear item that I won't hesitate to slap Conti's back on if they are substantially cheaper.
JB
edit - my riding is similar - I don't race, but use the tires for training and centuries. I have gotten a couple of flats with the Vittorias, but nothing unusual.

I ran the CX's for about a week and flatted twice on relatively small nicks. It's a better racing tyre but given how you plan on riding I'd recommend the Conti 4000S, grippy and pretty tough.

I'd recommend the 4000S's... however, i would NOT recommend the standard 4000's.. (ex. the colored ones without the black chili compound) I rode 4000S's on both my road bike and fixed gear commuter for over a year and had no problems at all... no flats either. then I picked up the red 4000's because I needed new tires and thought the red would look slick on the road bike... felt TERRIBLE in comparison IMHO. Not sure if this is just me but they felt much softer and a lot less durable. I got a flat and a tear in the sidewall on the front tire within 100 miles... after about 100 miles looking closely at the tire there are small slices in it.. and it looks like it has seen a lot more than 100 miles. Also was riding behind someone in the park and had to slam the brakes, skidding the back tire a bit and it left a huge flat spot whereas I would purposely skid the 4000S's from time to time in emergencies on the fixed gear without such ridiculous wear.
Switched to Vittoria Rubino Pro 2's and have been pretty happy with them on the road bike. Still have a newer set of 4000S's on the fixed gear and I love the way they feel.

The Vittorias with a latex tube = a sublime ride. Their down side is durability;they cut easily and wear quickly. I would go with the 4000's. Great ride and durability in one neat little package. Lp

I weigh 200# and I just got 2000 miles on a set of 4000 and before that I had 4 Season on the bike and I got 3500 miles. I had the 4000 in the closet and was anxious to put them on the bike. I know I could of got more miles on the 4 Seasons, but reading all the good things about the 4000, I couldn't wait to try them. I'll stick with the 4 Season. Now, if someone would run a good sale on them.
