Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Having had a seatpost failure while riding, I don't recommend it. I still have ankle issues from that crash and just missed getting run over. Do NOT ride that seatpost ever again!

The crack in question.
[/QUOTE]

If the clamping top swivels around..... I would pop it out and take it to a machine shop. They can cut off the part that cracked on a lathe and save the rest of the stem. You just have to move it up, maybe 1 inch or so. It is still good. Then find a way to press the top back in. If you put the top in a freezer overnight and use a dead blow hammer with some grease, you might be able to pop it back in yourself. A vise would help a lot and some wood so you don't scratch up the metal.

unbelievable! I have a cracked stem, you wanta stick it on your bike and ride it for a while? I have two thomson posts, it looks great, solid, light and at a reasonable price. it seems that carbon just does not make sense for a seatpost. think about it, you need to clamp it in a way that puts enough pressure on it so it won't slip when you put 160 plus pounds on it.
