Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Don't carry patches. Just carry your smartphone so you can be on BF.

I've used glueless patches for years with no problems. I replace the patched tube...I carry a spare tube and patch kit...if I have had more than one flat, which has happened usually due to my inability to find the "shard" the first time around argh...patched tube goes into the box of stuff that may have some second life in the far, far future.
Not carrying a patch kit is not smart when a problem occurs far from home and you can't contact anyone...enjoy the walk.
I also carry 2 co2 cartridges and a frame pump...I have had to use the frame pump and was very happy to have it when needed.
