Your Dec 15 ride.
I'll start.
82 degrees, sunny. Snuck in a quick 30 miles before heading to the Airport for a business trip., riding across the intracoastal, along the St John's river , through beautiful marsh land to the Ocean. Was a bit windy however. |
I talk about it right here in my Summer in the Southern Hemisphere thread:

finals today. no ride.
ahh the ides of december. no ride yet but i will be doing a brisk 20 mile loop when i get home from work, with lights. its particularly mild here in the nyc area, supposed to be low-mid 50's, which is pretty ideal for a stress busting evening ride. i cant wait actually.
Rub it in why don't you.... The streets where I live have been snow and ice covered for nearly a week. The temperature this morning was also below zero F. I am going through withdrawals.
No ride today, it's gym day.
A nice 30+ miler starting around 6am. Temp in the mid 60's with a dense morning fog that built up moisture on any exposed hair, including my eyebrows, eye lashes, and arm hair. Every time I'd hit a bump all the water would shake off my hair... I've never ridden in such fog before so that was new to me.

Stop whining!!! http://www.the-parenting-magazine.co...-worlds-21.jpg |
30 miles on the fixed gears with the girlfriend. Was nice to ride around the college campus now that everyone has gone home for x-mas break.
30 min light ride on the MTB, -11°C, light wind, lots of slush. Followed by 1 hour of hill repeats on the trainer.
Nice day to ride here in the NYC area so I rode in to work today and the commute home looks to be pretty nice before the colder temperatures set in tomorrow and the rest of the week.
hour on the trainer even though it was a nice day out
32º, 60 miles, I decided to blend my new route and old route together and connected them. Started with the new, finished with the regular. In that time I had croswinds, tailwinds, sunny skies, completely dark clouded skies, rain and hail. I also had an altercation with some idiot hillbilly in an old diesel truck, and I told him that I'd kick his ass point blank. It usually doesn't phase anybody, but I pulled it off without getting killed.
The last 10 miles was torture; 14 mph straight into a headwind. |
none existent today. Gym day. rousing 40 miler 2mro, doesnt matter the weather, praying for good though.
Hour in the weight room for me followed by 45 minutes on the indoor bike.
You guys are not doing this right.
The way to do is is PCAD style, start with really bad weather starting at 3AM, some ridiculous distance and then chastise everyone for being idiots or lesser human beings with a hint of camaraderie but not too obvious. Or a Botto style photo-logue making you feel vastly inferior with your shopping center/suburb/mall scenery or some ridiculous power meter numbers from the like of umd/waterrockets etc or an essay by CDR with a lots of "back in the day hints". I rode 43 junk miles today. I had marzipan and bad espresso at the ridiculously priced cafe. The weather was worse than some places and wussy compared to some. What is so special about Dec 15 other than pay day for salried folks. |
I put aerobars on my winter bike today so I could use them to pick up a pizza. I rode around all lazy and slow on snowy backroads then rode home with a pizza.
A quick 25 miles after work, just before sunset. Temps near 80, slight headwind on the way out and a tailwind on the way back. Wish all rides could be like that.
32 miles, first intervals of the season, legs don't feel too bad, I underdressed, 50F was freezing for me.
45'ish in Princeton area. Got in a quick 20 mid-afternoon. Bib-knickers, PI Gavia jacket and a thin base layer. Shoe covers, balaclava and glove liners under mits for the extremities. Felt good.
2 hour ride, light rain, turned into heavy rain in the last 15 minutes. I learned I need better socks and gloves. I should already know this, I am an oregonian..... Its been 3 months of fall and I don't have proper rain gear yet....

Ha ha ha, funny there is a thread for a Tuesday ride report. I considered making a thread about my ride, but thought I'd keep my negativity to myself.
I had an absolutely terrible ride and spent, oh, pretty much every minute of it cursing my decision to head out. Left at 15:15. Bad idea, school busses and moms out. Ugh. First 8 miles into a headwind. I also decided to ride my newest and nicest bike, since I've just been staring at it for a week or so - been busy and done a few roller rides. The ground was wet, but I didn't think it was that bad. Oh, and I have a rain bike with Crud fenders, but really wanted to ride my nice bike. I even tried to switch the fenders, but the o-rings were not big enough to fit over the oddly shaped fork blades. Great. Despite the fact that it has only snowed once, the shoulders were covered with grit and grime. Tons of cars out. At a t-intersection I typically yield at, because it is pretty far out in the country, I had to unclip and wait for a line of cars. Ugh. A few minutes later the freezing rain started. Yeah! Had to keep on moving & cleaning my shades. The main road I was on today is like a hillbilly highway - out in the country, but I guess it is the main road, so there was truck after truck after truck. And country folk don't seem to like to move left. As I was turning off the hillbilly thoroughfare I thought, "Phew, okay, now for empty roads." I look back over my left shoulder and a school bus is about to go flying by, making me slow down and wait to turn. Yeah, not the end of the world, but most days this road is empty. Finally onto the country road...when I hear something loud behind me. What, a UPS truck out here? I normally don't see anything besides dogs chasing me and the only sounds are gunshots in the woods. Truck passes me. A few minutes later I'm nearing a trailer where a big, mean dog usually emerges from to chase me and...no dog, but the UPS truck was in their driveway. Nice! No dog, but the person still managed to influence my ride. Hands began to freeze, had to creep down hills because I was worried about ice. Began to get dark. The ride itself wouldn't have been terrible. It wasn't fun, but still not awful. But the extra kick between the legs was then the cleaning of my clothes, shoe covers, bicycle, gloves, seat bag, etc. Anyway, I sound like a big sissy, but the enjoyment of the ride was lacking because of the freezing rain (it was around 34*) and knowing that I'd have to spend a bunch of time cleaning, relubing, etc. After beautiful weather up until just a week or so ago and then avoiding my rollers for the most part...I was reminded today in two grueling hours why I picked up rollers in the first place:) 35 miles, 2 hours, lots of cleaning... |
Finals today. Out of School at 12:34. Home at 1:10ish, got ready to bike.Thought it would rain so i put on a thick jacket(thick for bike riding, not thick as in the big poofy jackets). On top of that i wasn't feeling well, congested nose and felt a little sick.
I went down to a route where my first upcoming race would take place. The jacket was killing me, i climbed for 12 Minutes and decided i should go home to take my jacket off. Went home to get more water and an energy drink. For 12 Miles i climbed more on the Hills of Daly City, CA. Finished at 30 Miles.I was glad it didn't rain, but i was a bit dissapointed in myself for a slow climb in the San Bruno Mountains |
Gee, was today a day. Don't have to go to work until an hour later than usual, so I get up at regular time (3AM) to tack an extra 20 mile to my ride and make it a total of 60 miles. Sit in the can and nothing. Get dressed, get bike ready, and as I am out the door now I "need to go". Take everything off again, go to work on it, success, get dressed again, and out the door. The sky is clear as it gets, a billion stars in the sky, 68 degrees, the sound of waves in the background, and no wind. Simply beautiful!!! 2 miles down the road my rear tire flats! I tried to see if it would get fixed with just Vittoria PitStop (tubular). The stuff sprays all over the place as the tire has a gash on the side. I am on a very dark area, but there is a light pole 200 yards away, so I decide to ride to it. 10 feet later the front tire blows! I said F' it, so took my shoes off and decided to just walk home. 10 minutes into the walk back home, it starts to rain. A down pour like I haven't seen in a while, but it occurs to me the sky was clear a minute ago. I look up and can't see any clouds, yet the water is just relentless. 20 min later, it looks like it is stopping, but I notice the ground is completely dry ahead of me? It was just raining in a very small section where I was walking though!! If it had not happened to me, I would not have believed anyone telling me about it. Sometimes it simply is not meant to be. Fixing tires here in a minute, so I'll ride in the morning.

I rode twice today. Got my ass up at 8AM to ride with a team mate. He didn't show up so I just rode a little bit by myself. Guess I'm too slow.
Then, in the afternoon when it was 75 degrees and sunny, I rode with a buddy. Here is the trip. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/20594789 |
