Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tires squealing on rollers...

They are my old road tires and did not used to squeal, however over the last 5 or so hours they have started. Is this common? Have I just not let my tires get old enough before now? How do I make them stop with out using my "new" tires? I have thought of a few possible solutions, however none of them probably will work.

Was one possible solution to buy trainer specific tires?

I find that new tires like GP4000's squeak a bit on rollers, old tires or tires with a harder rubber seem be be better, I'm using Gatorskins right now with no squeaking

Yes, yes it was. Though while I realize they are not expensive, I cant really afford to spend the money.

Oh well, if my wife does not like it when she is sleeping I guess it is time to chance the wife. Preferable to changing riding habits.

Bikes: Three road bikes. Two track bikes.

Cleaning the rollers might help. Also, I've found that riding outdoors will cause the tires to squeak when put back on the rollers.

Have you checked you tire pressure? I let mine get a little low and they made an amazingly loud squealing sound. I now pump them to 120psi prior to each session.
