Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

+1. We have some shops within an hour's drive that are courting the enthusiasts by bro-dealing people and trying to be their friends. They bring in stuff that looks great in a display case, but it never moves. Then when people come in that aren't already cyclists, the vibe is wrong and they get scared off. The new cyclists are our bread and butter. We have cultivated a supportive atmosphere that people immediately feel comfortable with. We like it that way. Sure we fix a lot of nice bikes-people literally drive hundreds of miles to have us work on their stuff. We aren't cheap.......but boy do we stay busy......

Not to mention, some of these shops spend lots on stuff, but don't have a competent wrencher. Great.

About the same for a new car dealership, maybe a tad less.

Why not call and talk to the owner of the shop. It is quite likely nothing more than a misunderstanding. They happen in even the best run shops.
C'mon...it's a communist plot...LOL...
