Only 2.5 hours huh.

FR4NCH1SE 01-16-10 10:46 AM

Oh noes, ATTACK OF THE GMC DENALI'S!!!! I knew this day would come.

Back to sanity, 2.5 hrs for 20 miles is basically the best you will get with that bike, thats what I averaged on it. ITS SLOW!!! I had a Denali too, a blue one the yellow ones you have have the shimano twist shifters not a bad upgrade and better rims. Still its a waist of 100 bucks and legs. You guys should have atleast bought a schwinn varsity its allot better.

The reason you are slow has nothing to do with the bike.

Just sayin.

The cold temps slow Denalis down.

RacerOne 01-16-10 11:40 AM

You've got to be kidding me, the Denali is from Alaska! The colder the better. Congrats on your first group ride, I'm sure it was a blast.

Fratzj 01-16-10 12:21 PM

LOL nice bikes. Any pics of you guys actually riding?

jeremynj 01-16-10 12:49 PM

Sorry, no action shots. My friend bought the Yukon in the spring and did a 60 mile charity ride so when I got home in the summer I bought the Denali and convinced another friend to buy one. A 4th friend got the Denali and a present and this was the first time we all rode together.

For 150$ and the small amount of miles we ride, I'm very happy with the bike.

The slow pace has a lot more to do with our activity level than the bike.

Jynx 01-16-10 12:51 PM

very nice. keep up the riding.

If You Owned the bike Like I have you would know what I am talking about. The bike is made out of recycled metals and the chain is made out of plastic that snaps after 50 miles oh and the spokes are made out of wooden twigs.

Do you have an issue with his abilities?

LesterOfPuppets 01-16-10 03:42 PM

c'mon franchise, Plastic chains = weight weenie wet dream!

You're making me want one, now.

bmxsykes 01-16-10 03:45 PM

Does your team kit have a big yellow smiley face on it?

tspek 01-16-10 03:46 PM

I'd never buy that bike but I'm pretty certain I would still be faster than the people I'm faster than on that bike as I am with my fancy shmancy Taiwanese carbon fiber POS that I currently ride. God forbid someone posts an enthusiastic message about getting into cycling with a group of friends. And judging by the size and type of bike, I sure wish I had some friends who would ride with me at that age.

substructure 01-16-10 03:46 PM

Worry less about the bike and more about having fun. Don't become one of those guys. Yet.

datlas 01-16-10 03:49 PM

Keep riding and enjoy. Don't pay attention to the snobs who dis' your bike.

substructure 01-16-10 03:52 PM

Four years ago I road a Wal-Mart Schwinn upright monster. I rode 3 miles and thought it was great. That bike got me into riding and I thank God I had it.

Now look at me. I'm freaking awesome!

;) on the awesome part.

Absolutely not. He was on a bike exercising. Nothing wrong with that.

However, there was time not too long ago when I could have run that far in 2.5 hours.

substructure 01-16-10 04:41 PM

Man, don't do stuff like that. It doesn't matter how far you ran or how far he's gone on a bike at what speed. BFD. Let him have his time without the scrutiny of others in his head. It sucks the fun right out of it.

I am sorry for my posts, I was not trying to be mean I was being realistic, the GMC Denali I bought a 2009 Model from walmart for 99 bucks, felt like a steal it rode great for my first road bike, but it had problems very quickly and many of them until a point where I didn't want the frame or components other than the Saddle, which btw is my favorite ATM, its a Vitesse saddle that is in the picture too. The bike itself was too big, a 57cm I am 5'8". As for the bicycle parts the rims are very weak, they upgraded them in the yellow denali you ride, which I wish I had.The bike itself rides very rough its like your riding a mtn bike which is what I am currently riding right now. Hey, I am still a Cheapskate and I don't want to spend 500+ for a bike, but there are better options for a bit more money, for example there is a Schwinn Varsity that costs 229 at walmart that is A BIG improvement on the denali, everything is better.

But either way the bike is just a bike, you get to do some great fitness, you improve your cardiovasicular you have ALOT of FUN. But in the end of the day you need equipment that will last so you can keep doing the fun stuff and the denali is not built to last, but I guess to each his own, as a personal experience I found that everything on the denali sooner or later breaks. (ex. Spokes, Chain(wtf), barrel adjusters, rims) God Knows what else would have broke if I repaired the spokes with a new Rim.

I used the bike for 3 months last summer and it was fun while it lasted but that is just 3 months, I wanted more.

Plus, don't tell any of the racer dudes who ask you about the ride, don't tell them how far you went.

Just tell them 'two and a half hours'.

4cmd3 01-16-10 09:44 PM

Hey if it's good enough for oh say... George Hincapie... then it should be good enough for anyone!
George's training ride is yellow just like yours!

Even Cadel Evans is riding for GMC this year...
You know... WORLD CHAMPION.

:innocent:

Chandne 01-16-10 09:59 PM

Have fun and IF you want to, ride harder once in a while. My first ride was 24 miles and around 1,500 feet of elevation. I pushed the next time and hit 1:45. I hit 1:30 the next time. Now I just have fun and will try 1:15 soon. I'm meeting people and may not be a solo rider for too long. Never forget to enjoy the ride and you're doing very well there. FWIW, I am a 40-year-old newbie to road biking.
