Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Where do I learn...

what all the various nicknames/biking terms mean?

Is there already a list somewhere?

For instance, I have seen "Fred" thrown around, among various others....

Bike Forums, Sheldon Brown (although that's actually, ya know, valuable info) and bike blogs like BikeSnobNYC (don't really like this myself) and Fat Cyclist. Just...google bike stuff like that, and you'll learn a lot. And if you have friends that bike or a shop nearby, you can start going there/hanging out.

edit: just pretend that doesn't sound like one huge shill for those sites. It's just what I read and how i've learned a little bit about biking via the internet.

start there.
