Wal-Mart full 105?

Wal-Mart full 105?
Someone help me understand this. Wal-Mart sells a bike for $499 that is loaded with full 105 componentry, and PBK's lowest price is $609 for just the 105 group. I understand that the rest of the bike is probably crap ('cept maybe the brakes), but why would it not make sense to buy the WM bike to cannibalize and upgrade a lower-end CL bike?
Before the flame-fest begins, please bear in mind that I know how to work on bikes, I do support my LBS in ways other than buying bikes every year, and the bike at WM is likely assembled ass-backwards, requiring a reassemble anyway.

Doesn't include a 105 crank. Maybe older model parts ?

gv, your response is as informative as it is relevant.
I'm not looking to use it as a bike, I'm just trying to rationalize that the brifters, derailleurs alone probably cost about as much alone as they do on this bike. I'm no bike snob, but I'll take the 105's and treat the carbon fork as a free gift, even though it's not name-brand.

FWIW, doesn't look like a full 105 group, brakes/crank/bb aren't. The cranks, of course, are a lot of the cost. The $611 at PBK includes all of the above.

It doesn't say if it's a 9- or 10-speed. There is one question about the year of mfg., and one customer said the one he got was 2007. So it looks like it might be NOS to me. Still, looks like a better deal than the $650 Trek 1.2 I bought in '08 for my kid.

Can we just go ahead and make a sticky about the "WAL MART BIKE W/ 105" so that these threads can be relegated to one all informative place?
There are at least three of these threads in the top few pages....and I ain't countin'.

punkncat, it is easy to tell you haven't been around much. A search yielded no results for my specific inquiry, but yes, plenty of Wally World bike threads. You might want to start countin', 'cause you're wrong.

In answer to your question, it is YES.
And you even have some parts to repair neighborhood childrens bikes with, a definite side benefit, as my old parts bin is getting more sparse.....

Hey "richard"...here is just ONE of the search returns on that bike....https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...685-Corsa-Bike (and it was only a few pages back)
if you look around the forum, there are several other threads where the EXACT same questions have been pondered.
Did you have any homework you want me to do for you too?

First time I've visited bf.net this season, and the first thread I click on seems like it was written for me, lol.
I'm curious too... The g/f, oblivious to all things cycling, just announced to me she'd like to ride the MS150 b/c her CFO client is doing it. Her b-day is in 2 weeks also, so a good entry-level bike would make an awesome gift. Stick with CL or would this be a good option?

i'll explain it further: walmart is one of the most unscrupulous companies in existence. it wouldnt surprise me if they were paying 10 yr old children slave labor rates in third world countries to STEAL shimano parts to put on bikes. i prefer to steer far clear of walmart altogether.

I recently bought a new 105 crankset and bottom bracket on Ebay for $79 total for a spare bike I had.
I then sold the worthless crankset and bottom bracket on that bike for $20. You could easily sell some of these Walmart bike parts on Ebay for a small amount.
I think this is a good post. This is a pretty reasonable way to get a 105 groupset.

Scientist, I understand your point here, but the focus of this thread was not third world wages, or how to use the search function, it was to determine the value of the components on this bike. Sorry I even brought it up.

Toddorado, this is the one you want. You may as well get some Ultegra derailleurs, crank, and bottom bracket, and the rest is 105, including the brakes.

I don't really know what it is you expect? Your high post count didn't gain you the insight to an answer to this inquiry either, did it?
Seriously, value is much in the eye of the beholder. Do YOU think that this bike with the few 105 components is worth shelling out the cash for?
What happens if you Google search the components and get prices together and make a comparison? Does that help? Or were you hoping that someone else already had a price breakdown of everything and was going to make the decision for you?
Cause honestly, it seems to me like I have learned that I could take a turd with square wheels, throw some 105 components on it, and someone would be making a thread wanting the forum to decide for them whether it was worth it or not.
