Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Incoming Wheelset

I just ordered some Easton EA90's. And I think I stole them at this price. $445 for the set!

https://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...+Wheelset.aspx

Thought I would share the good deal.

How did I do? My friend at the local bike shop says that this price is below his store's cost.

When I was in college, I had no money. Now that I'm 5 years out of college, I have no money plus I owe money. YMMV (I hope)

I almost bought those a few weeks ago, but didn't want to be riding on a 20 spoke rear wheel full time. Definitely a good deal though.

Knowing little about the components of this wheelset, is the premium, even on sale like this, worth saving one pound (when compared to my $129 Vuelta Corsa HD @ Nashbar)?

I was thinking about this deal for a month and finally bought them last night . I don't believe I saw
them anywhere else below $700 and usually they where $850. I heard they once (2008?) were on chainlove for around $400 and even followed CL and bonktown for couple weeks, but they did not offer them.

Perfect wheels for me - fairly light, failry aero, good value, excellent reviews and warranty.

Today I got Conti GP Attack&Force combo for $66 from ribble, new cassette and chain.

Can't wait for the first ride with the new stuff.

I have a similar set but not the Aero. I have the EA90 SL. The hubs are a bit loud but the wheels are relatively light and springy compared to my Alex 290s. They were a huge improvement in feel, comfort and a decent improvment in spin-up due to a big weight difference. The Aeros may be slightly stiffer and obviously more aero but I also consider them a really good wheelset. That is a really good price- very close to cost.

Oh. since the rim is deeper, the lower spoke count does not concern me. The spokes are shorter and that can also make the wheel stronger and stiffer. My EA90 SLs are 24/28.

I went to a public university and paid for my education with the help of my parents and my savings account. The debt was from moving out of my parents' house and paying for a wedding.

So, don't get married and keep living with your parents and your bike schwag collection will grow beyond belief.

wedding? being ugly and wearing lycra in public pretty much guarantees that wont happen. bike schwag it is.

Nice deal! I'm actually considering EA70s for $350 or (now) the EA90s for $450. Worth the $100?

Any thoughts on how these compare to the Soul 4.0s? The Souls are deeper but heavier. I really love the look of the Souls, but am a little wary about the build quality compared to the tried and true Eastons.

Looks like a great deal on a nice looking set of wheels.

If the spokes were black, I'd pull the trigger, but not sure something that low in spoke count would reliably support my 185 lbs.

^ Soul Wheels are handbuilt. I'm not sure about Easton.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

That depends on who handbuilt them, but I've heard only good things about Soul so far. Machines are very hard on wheels and don't check for accuracy, although I imagine Eastons are at least hand finished.

You're a kid! I thought you were, like, older and stuff.

In any case, having money is no good - money is only useful when you spend it. So in an ideal world, you are broke your entire life.... only, with a lot more toys to keep you company.

Just turned 30 this month I only sound old because I've been road biking since 12, wheel building since 14, and worked at a bike shop at age 16.

But I should still clarify that college was 5 years for a BA and another 2 for the teaching credential. There were also 2 more years after that as mandated by the state, but you can do those while working.

my set of 4.0's just arrived. i dont have any real world data on them yet, but the finishing on them is perfect, they are dead on true and appear to be very well built. the soul's consistently get great reviews and i'm looking forward to putting a lot of miles on them this year.
