Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: 2012 MotorHouse road bike. No. You can't get one.

Cat 3 race: more accelerating/decelerating.
Pro race: more constant. Higher speed.

Is the lower power numbers in the pro race accounted for by better drafting opportunities, aka, larger pack?

Bikes: How'd I get this many?

Why not just send a PM instead of starting a thread?

Because this is pretty informative, and some of us can actually still learn of a question like that.

I just guessing, but I'd say the 123 race was smoother with higher corner speeds. I'm saying that as you had a lower power and HR in that race but the speed was higher. I am jealous btw, it will be May before I can double up with 2 crits.

With only the power file to go on, I would bet you're exactly right.

If you compare, the difference between average and normalized power int the 2 files, the smaller variance in the second race tends to support that.

I race 45+ and Cat4. The 45+ races which have a lot of Cat 2's and some Cat 1's and former pros are always smoother and faster through corners, and thus higher speeds for the same average watts

Yes, smoother and larger pack. The biggest difference was that in the 3s race I spent several laps in front while in the pro race I was never in the wind except for about 20 seconds wheee I towed a teammate to the front.
