Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

For some reason I always think I have a flat in my back tire. I never do, I don't know why I feel like that. I just have to push it out of my mind and know that I'm a little nuts when that thought pops in my head. It seriously cuts down on the amount of times I slow down to look.

Even if the rear tire isn't flat ("it's not, right? could it be a little low? Nah, looks OK. But wait, doesn't it look low? Nope, I guess it's OK."), it could be the brakes rubbing.

Not that I would want to plant any other ideas in your head, or anything.

I'm just sayin'

I always think my brakes are dragging, so I get off and spin my wheels, and they're fine.

But you know that when you weight the tire by sitting on the bike, the wheel can shift a little...

See, I knew I wasn't the only one.

And if you have loose bearing hubs, make sure the QR isn't compressing too tightly adding friction. If cartridge bearings, maybe they need to be replaced...or it could be the bottom bracket bearings are dragging...or the spoke tension is low on the wheels...or...or...

might as well overhaul your entire bike and buy new rims to make sure all the friction is gone

Overhaul, friction? Wasn't this a fun thread? Dang, now before I hop on the trainer I'll need to check the air pressure several times and remove the brake pads to make sure they're not rubbing. You shouldn't encourage us OCD people =)!

Bikes: See my sig...

I am so slow that whenever I ride my bike time moves backwards, but on the plus side... I keep getting younger and younger.

I am just basing this on observations from people who say I can't be 44 and some estimates have placed me at being 30... I am sure cycling has had something to do with that.

I wonder what would happen if I rode my fixed gear backwards ?

Maybe you would want to get that wheel fixed. That much shift shouldn't be in there. I weigh around 180 and my wheel does not shift.

That was a fun remark about my location. Well done.

You might want to build a flux capacitor for your bike.

I'm so slow...that when there's a turtle on the road, it runs me over.
I'm so slow...that I can watch people mow their entire lawn while I ride past it.
I'm so slow...I can't mountain-bike, because the roots keep growing through the spokes as I ride.
I'm so slow...that a century is how long it took, not how far I rode.
I'm so slow...my daily ride takes me two days.
I'm so slow...that if I rode a tandem, the stoker would pass me up.
