Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Interchangeable Groups???

I'm looking into upgrading my components of my 08' Madone. I currently have an Ultegra group set and would like to upgrade to either Dura Ace or Sram Red. I plan on upgrading a few components at a time. Just wondering if a Red rear derailleur would work with my Ultegra group? Thanks for everyone's help.

I'm pretty sure you'd be better off sticking with all Shimano.

Shimano->Campy can be hacked with a travel agent and this says that you can use SRAM Brifters and front/rear derailleurs with a Shimano ten speed crank and chain, as the spacing is identical for SRAM and Shimano.

You have to also get Red or other SRAM (Rival, Force) shifters. Everything else is interchangeable.

Shifters and RD must be from the same manufacturer. You can mix anything else in terms of Shimano/SRAM, if that makes sense.
