Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Susitna 100 and Iditarod 350 or 1100

The Susitna 100 is set to start in just a few days ... February 13th

And the Iditarod is set to start at the end of the month ... February 28th

Have any of you done one or both of these? They're tempting!! They've been on my Things To Do list for some time, so I keep an eye on what happens each year. I met one of the ladies who did the 350 mile distance (I believe) on the Gold Rush Randonnee in 2005 ... some of the people who do these events are long distance road cyclists, who take to the ice and snow in winter.

I think I'd want to do the Susitna first, to get a feel for the conditions before I did the 350 mile or 1100 mile distances of the Iditarod.

Like I said ... "some of the people who do these events are long distance road cyclists, who take to the ice and snow in winter."

yea maybe, but I'll bet they're not not apporaching this with their "road biker" hat on but rather with their "mountain biker" hat on, not riding road bikes, but are on mountain bikes heavily modified for snow routes.... and that you'll get a lot more action in the MTB forums. Just the first thing that came to my mind when I saw your post in the roadie forum. Sounds like a tough race though!
