Chamois Cream...necessary?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

As the Assos jar states, it works really well when you apply the cream to the chamois after you wash the shorts (while they're still wet).

I started getting a saddle sore that I've been battling on and off for about 6 months now... it seems to go away when I use both a little bag balm, and topping that with chamois butter on both the sore area, and in the shorts themselves...

if I even forget to use the chamois butter once, or if I don;t put enough on, a 20 mile ride, and the sore comes back.. it sucks

I used to get a bit chafing. I started to use skin lotion and it has worked well. Neutragena or Keri lotion seem to work for me.

Assos cream. Even Lance uses it.

If you race in Belgium, you'll see they have all different sorts for different conditions.
