Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Chill, Hard.

I was riding last Sunday warming up my legs at the start of an 80 mile ride not feeling so hot when another rider apparently happened to say hi to me. I did not reciprocate the aforementioned hello and ran into him later on the ride, he literally called me out about not saying hi and was quite condescending in doing so. I just want to let the "hello police" know that when a rider doesn't say hi it isn't always a slight, he or she might just be in the middle of a hard pull. So please, spare us and don't put the Irate in Butt Pirate; just chill, hard.

I hope he's on here I just want him to know that if he wants some quality time with The Fauxto I can forward him a list of my favorite coffee shops and restaurants.

Everyone should say hello to The Fauxto, but not when he's in zone 5.

on saturday at the end of 60 miles i was going uphill when this guy dressed like a road nazi, obviously a fred in disguise, came coasting down in the other direction. Not only did he wave, but said "hi there. Having a nice ride?"

what the hell do i do? have a long conversation in between breaths?

I don't get the saying hi thing. I mean its nice and all, but people don't go around saying hi to everyone they see on the sidewalk. You don't go nodding hi to everyone in Target or Wally World right?
Maybe it's just because where I live there are so many people out riding all the time, but if you say something to everyone seems like you would never get any riding done.

I say Hi....but sometimes I dont.

EDIT; I say Hi when i am riding alone, and not when my wife is with me.....Its an old trick....that's never worked.

ok bye.

I spent some time in Ukraine awhile back. Everyone was rude to everyone else. The only time a woman smiled to you was if she was trying to sell you something or if she knew you.

The cool thing is that no one took it personally. It was just the way it was.

I got so I would elbow my way up to the Simferopol McDonalds and just say "Get the F out of my way" and no one cared.

Unless if they spoke English, in which case it got quite ugly.

The point being if people are rude, it should encourage you to seek a zen moment and become one with the universe.

Especially if they're Ukrainian, carry grudges, and own heavy equipment (reference to the Italian Job).

I'll be riding in the Santa Monicas on April 10. You better wave, Nick, or my feelings will be crushed.

I'll ride with you like I did with umd last April - for 30 seconds. After that you'll be bored with my pace and drop me.

How can ramble pointlessly if your are always pulling so hard you can't wave and say "hey" at someone being friendly?

Bikes: Trek Émonda, 1961 Follis (French) road bike (I'm the original owner), a fixie, a mountain bike, etc.

So I am REALLY steamed. Sunday, I headed over toward Griffith Park, a magnet for cyclists in L.A., for some socializing with lots of riders I've never seen before. Bingo, five minutes into the ride! There it was, coming at me from the opposite direction, like a freight train: a peloton of at least 30 riders.

"Hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi!" I chanted, while simultaneously tooting an air horn mounted on my bars.

How gratifying it was to see most of the riders lift their eyes and remove their hands from their own bars, to stare back and offer a friendly wave of their own back at me. The ensuing pile-up was awesome and gave me plenty of time to call out the fallen riders who hadn't answered my ardent salutation.

Where's Hermosa Beach? California?

I thought Californians were lovers, not fighters?
