Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Busted my a....rear....

I have heard people discussing that once you go clipless that falling at least one time is inevitable. I went ahead and got that out of the way last night.

I was out checking my lights for a ride (Critical Mass) in Atlanta tonight. I pulled up in the driveway, and at the same time my son comes running down the driveway hollering something. I had my headphones in, couldn't hear him, went to pull one, while stopping....oops forgot to pull my foot out.....and fell right over on my side. Jammed my knee into the pavement, and rolled right over onto my back. Unfortunatly, as I came back over I slammed the rear wheel down sideways and knocked it well out of true, two days after paying to have it done. May have bent the rear der. hanger as well...dangit!

A set of cheap Zefal's that I picked up at Wally World. The rear light I have had for a while quit turning on (not battery related) and the front mount I had for my minimag dissappeared somewhere in the mess. Have to have lights for this ride...so...

Wow, thats a heck of a first fall! Lets hope the _next_ one is not so severe! Hope you and the bike are ok soon. What a deal. Don't do that again. Lean against a wall and clip out like 100x. I'm sure you're doing that now.

Sorry about your fall, but I just don't get the statement above. Clipless pedals are so much easier to get out of than toe clips. That is their great advantage. No more loosening a strap to get out. Or were you riding platforms?

Now you can understand why other riders spend lots of money on good equipment that works rather than cheapo stuff!

Don't get your chamois in a bunch, I'm just messin' with you compliments of your "I don't understand thread"!

Have not been to one. Not so much that I am in for the "political" cycling, just saw it as a good opp. to go cruise downtown for a while with a diverse group of riders.

As far as the headphones, I only wear them in the neighborhood, which is a 1 mile "T" and next to no traffic as it leads nowhere. I do not ride with (both) in out on the actual road, if I wear them at all.

And yeah Beanz...go ahead and bust my nuts some. In spite of having Cranks Bros Egg Beaters, user error will get you every time, and I probably deserve the razzing after my "chemically inbalanced" rant.
