Bike Purchase - A Dream Deferred
Sorry for the vent, but after months of research and guilt over the price, I finally decided to pull the trigger on a new Giant TCR Advanced SL ISP frameset to build up. However, it turns out Giant is all out and isn't expecting any more until mid to late May!! How can the manufacturer be out? Could they not see this coming and start to build/ship more inventory from Asia sooner? It's not like it is Christmas and they are a toy maker artificially keeping supply low to drive up demand. I find it particularly amusing that when I test rode the SL3 at a demo day last week, the Giant rep was telling me I should definitely get the ISP - way to up sell me to a bike that doesn't exist. My LBS is actually trying to down sell me to an Advanced. This stinks!

I'm just guessing, but I bet Giant has the TCR Advanced SL complete build in stock. Higher margin and all.
It's no consolition, but the frame will be worth the wait, trust me!

Wait it out. The delay will suck but you will always regret it and/or wonder if you go with something else. Assuming you have something else to ride in the interim, of course.

I agree that is sucks, but it's what we get for demanding (as consumers) that bike companies release new models every year. Have you tried calling around to LBS's all over the country? I bet somebody still has one in stock... at least it'll give you something to do until may...

you waited this long. be patient and distract yourself some how. date a new woman. ride another bike. see a movie, read a book, go on vacation, visit family ... whatever. your dream is in sight. stay true.

Like Christmas Eve, the best part about Christmas is the anticipation.

They've been out of complete bikes since before Christmas, and had only one frameset in my size (medium) in mid-December. Due to supply, Giant isn't offering the normal team deal we get through the store until 2011 bikes are available sometime is August. Somewhat in Giant's defense, determing production amounts on an extremely high end bike/frame in this economic environment can't be easy. They simply underestimated.
I'm with everyone else, the bike is worth the wait. It took a little looking, but I was able to find one close to what my team deal would have been in about 1 week.

This looks like a deal:
https://www.racycles.com/product.aspx...3,523&pid=1776
Sure you could get it for less if you called.
