I've got a 3.0 on my trainer, and a couple of pre-3.0 frames kicking around. I should get them on the road again to see how they feel compared to my CAAD 8 and vintage steel that I ride now.
|
i've been pretty happy with my 2.8 r900. i mainly use it for crit training now, but i've done 2 centuries on it and rode it over the crappy streets of LA and it felt fine. of course, i've not had the opportunity to ride more modern frames such as CF. i will say that my Ti roadie feels more smooth but less responsive compared to the 2.8.

I'm not sure how long they made the 2.8 for, but it was originally made with a 1" head tube.
Botto's correct that it's a very stiff ride. My mom complained about hers over the steel Bianchi she had before it. I believe the Cannondale track frame was based on the 2.8 (or was it the 3.0?), and my brother and I rode them and also noticed how stiff they were. Not as big of a deal on the velodrome... except that Encino felt like Paris Roubaix. Tomorrow.... Tomorrow.... :) |

I weigh a bit more though, just over 180lbs, I think it will flex a bit more for me than for others...

I did some measuring, and the rear wheel will fit. As the frame is coming without a fork, I hope to be able to use the OCR fork without too much problems. Should be a nice sight to have a bright and shiny polished 2.8 with a bright yellow fork on it ;)
Sorry to dissapoint you Botto, but I'm going for this frame anyway, as I need a cheap frame as soon as possible. As said I will be putting some money aside each month to save up for a real road bike though. In about 2 years I really hope to be riding a nice 105 equipped bike.

It's in your head -- 2.8s are fine.

Thanks for the responses anyway Botto :) You've been useful :)

Just got the frame, and damn it's light. Any lighter and I feel like it would float away.
|
Doing a bit of reading online about the 2.8 I just picked up for my son. Apparently it is still regarded as one of the lightest, but strongest and stiffest Aluminum frames on the market. Perhaps with yours in hand you can verify, but the claim was sub 3 lbs on a 56cm frame.
Personally, I find myself wishing that me and my son took a bit more "size compatable" bikes, cause I would love to take his for a good ride. |

I weighed it at 1398gr (3.1lbs), though mine is a 60cm.
It feels very light and absolutely is a sight for sore eyes. There's a few pretty nice details about the frame that I like a lot already, for instance the little screw in the headtube, to mount a number plate for races. Though even it's this awesome, it sure needs a lot of buffing up. |
Yes, I believe the 2.8 lb claim was for a 54cm without fork.

I believe that is a pump peg so you can fit a pump under the top tube. It was put on larger size frames that did not have an acute angle with the downtube.
Though, what size wheels should fit on this frame? I've tried swapping out my 700Cx25's, but they weren't able to fit. I did notice that the Giant OCR had a replaceable dropout after all. Turns out the little screws that are used to mount the dropout, were nearly hollowed out by using the wrong tools for the purpose. I'll have to take it to the lbs to get a new dropout after all, and fix my baby up again. I'm quite happy it turned out to be a minor problem after all, even though I have a frame on my hands now that I just don't know what to do with... |
700x23s fit fine on mine, and there's enough (eyeball) space for 25s.
|
Weird... Do you know whether a series of the 2.8 frame has been made specially for 650C?
|
|
Yeah, was looking at that page about a minute ago.
So what is a reason to go 650 instead of fixing up the OCR after all? |
Crapper... Can't find any 650C wheels here in NL anyway, so I'm putting it back up for sale.
Anyone interested?:( |
Are you sure it's for 650c?
|
Well, it sure isn't for 700C. My 700's won't fit, just too little space...
|
Can you make the seller take it back?
|
Not unless I ride back to the other end of the country, costing me another tank of fuel. It's only cost me €75 though, which isn't too much for a frame in this pristine condition.
Care for pics? |
yep, lets see it. 650c, bummer. i thought it was only the teeny frames and some of tt/tri frames that were 650c.
|
I thought so too.
I have to say this would make a sweet single speed project for the upcoming winter though. I've found some 650C's, but I don't want to spend any more money on things I won't use right now. I'll save it for later... I'll ask the better half to e-mail me my pictures, I've left them on the camera. |
Are you trying to fit a front wheel or rear wheel ? If you have a 700c rear with a big fat tire on it might not fit. Try the front to confirm.
