Buying Jerseys on Ebay
I was just wondering what everyone's opinions on buying jerseys and shorts off ebay. More specifically these cheap ones from asia. I got an example. Its about $60 CAN including everything to get a matching set. Obviously they are not great quality but they do the job. I've bought a Saxo Bank jersey and shorts and they work great. I'm thinking about ordering 2 more sets.
Here's a link to something similar:
https://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...=STRK:MEWNX:IT
So I have ordered from these guys and it was quick and I like the stuff but I've never owned any riding clothing thats expensive so maybe there's something im missing out on. The padding on these is enough to be comfortable for 30-40km rides which is all i do every 2 days or so.

What do you think?

I think it is not the wisest of choices to rely on quality of a product, where you know the company is producing knock-offs and operating in a shady area of trademark infringement.
I am sure they want to produce only the highest quality clothing. (snicker)

Haha yeah i'm not looking for quality with these. I'm just wondering if its worth getting something expensive when i'm on a student budget and i'm not racing or anything.

What I think is dubious is you ask for an opinion of a product that you think is great, and post a link to a product that is currently for sale on Ebay.

What i'm after here is for someone to maybe say "i've tried those before and they fell apart in a month" or "yeah the shorts arn't nearly as comfortable as say these..." or "they are great, just like the real thing" just so I can judge if I should buy a couple more so im set for the summer. The thing i posted was just an example so you could see the type of things i was considering.

Well I am the person you are looking for. They are definitely not the highest of quality but work just fine for a college student without much cash. They chamois do wear out a bit faster than the more expensive kinds but if you have a nice/comfortable enough seat it'll be alright. I use mine all the time.

That's pretty much what I was expecting. I think I might get a couple more maybe a bib style this time. BTW, are bibs less comfortable with the added bonus of keeping everything in place or is there some tradeoff im missing? Some people here seem to love them while others tend to like the shorts only, usually basing their decisions on ease of bathroom use.

i have a knock off rock racing and silence-lotto belgian kit. no real complaints. the chamois in mine is difference then the one pictured there though. as far as bibs vs shorts, i dont really know any road rider who likes shorts better. no waist to pinch, stay put, etc etc

As a music arranger/composer who has slaved away for hours on end in order to produce something for people to enjoy, I would never disrespect someone else's intellectual property like that, even if I was dirt poor and there was a legal loophole. YMMV

Why would you want a fake? Wouldn't you rather get a "non-team" outfit that of better quality that's going to last, rather than some ebay knockoff? I would buy stuff based on the quality of the material and chamois, not just the printing on it. Buying a real kit from one of the UK sellers is about double the price, which isn't totally out of line considering that you're planning on buying a few. Why not just have one real team kit, and a few regular sets of cycling clothes instead of fake crap that came from who knows where? Does it meet regulations, are the dyes approved, fabrics, chemicals, etc.?

I've seen livestrong fakes on ebay in the past, and I went through and threated and reported every seller for ripping off a charity. I actually got it all pulled off ebay australia and america for about 2 weeks, then it all came back again. I wish I could stop it, and I wish I had the $$$ to get livestrong gear from livestrong. Maybe after the bike is paid for.

i got one last summer, believe it or not they are not that bad. the fit is good and the materal is a little heavier but its nice for a cooler ride. the only thing that is happening is the material is fraying where the chamois contacts the cloth. they are a year old.

I think in this instance, you get what you pay for.

One thing to remember when buying cheap items (with high shipping costs) on Ebay is this: If you want to return the item, you will not be refunded the shipping costs. When I see high shipping costs, this is the first thing that comes to my mind.

A few comments:
1) These jersey's are made from the real materials. I call them "real fakes" they also do soccer and hockey jersey's. There are two ways this happens, a) A bolt of fabric gets a small spot so they sell it to an employee for cheap since they can't use it with the machinery without recalibrating and b) Someone orders 500 jersey's and the plant makes 600 and sells the other 100 as "real fakes." The quality is usually either perfect or near perfect, if you know what you are looking for.
2) Personally I have little problem buying a "real fake" when someone is charging big money and a huge mark up. $99 for a jersey that costs about $5 to make.
