Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Castelli Bibs Torn

Bonktown had a great deal on some castelli bibs. I bought a pair to try them out. They fit great. So, I use them for the first time today for an interval session on the trainer. Afterwards, while taking them off I notice I can see part of the chamois from the outside. Upon further inspection it looks like the area where the inside of my thigh makes contact with the seat had worn through enough to make a hole. They were cheap but I'm still pissed that after only one ride the fabric covering the chamois is torn. This is my first experience with the brand so do you guys think I just got a bad pair? Would you try to return them? Thanks in advance.

I had a pair of Castelli bib knickers come apart at the seams on the third ride. They replaced them and the new ones did the same thing. I would never buy their clothing again.

Bonktown/backcountry has a "no questions asked" return policy, I believe (even if you used it already). Contact them. I'm sure they'll try to make you happy. Report back if they don't. So far they have been very cool when I've dealt with them.

I have a couple of Castelli bibs. After about a year, one of them started to come apart at one seam, but not the seam that keeps the panels together--only the one that keeps the excess material neat. Yours sounds more serious. From reviews I've read it's a fairly common thing for Castelli bibs to come apart at the seam. BTW, I have their better bibs (chronos, I think) with their top-of-the line chamois. I'm avoiding their bibs in the future as well.

I got some of the blue/white/black velocissimo bibs from bonktown and have now worn them three times. The seam connecting the front panel on one of the legs to the gripper at the bottom is coming undone. I submitted a question regarding where to submit a warranty claim through their website two weeks ago and have not received a response. I'm off to submit another request... Bibs are comfortable and I like the chamois, just wish they weren't falling apart after wearing them three times.

Eeek! Thanks for the heads up guys. I guess I'll do more research before hitting that add to basket button. I'll definitely hit up bonktown/backcountry to see what they can do for me.

Ok, I just examined all my bibs (various brands) and I have the same wear spot on all of them. I rotate enough so that none of them have worn enough to make a hole but now I'm worried. Could this be a fit issue? Maybe a form issue? I don't have any knee pains. I use the same seat on all my bikes (Selle Italia SLR). This sucks.

I had an issue with the velcro on one of my seatbags rubbing my shorts. Luckily I caught it before it did too much damage though. You may want to check for that.
